I habe been spending a lot of time in South East Georgia and between the snakes and gators while fishing I NEED a small pocket cannon. I have looked at a Bond Arms in 45LC/410 and like the size. The trigger is funky in as having to put downward pressure on the trigger while pulling back which is not a good combo to be in in a high stress condition. Looking for input on the trigger and overall pro/cons.

Re: Anyone input on Bond Arms

Way to clunky for what it is supposed to be. The trigger guard is nothing short of ridiculous. Don't do it.

If a pocket piece is what you need and a derringer is what you want, do yourself a favor and get a Mark I0 from American Derringer. Remember that you can get shot shells in many small calibers. the .45 acp shot shells will print the size of a record album (record albums...remember those) at about four feet out on the ground. Perfect for what you need. Better yet, see if they will still cut a .357 mag over .45 acp barrel for you. They once did, you could load a .38 shot shell over a standard .45acp and be ready for whatever ails you. Gators an issue? Two .357s, or load one shot shell .38 over a 357. Whatever you do just remember these scream (loud!)

Anything longer barreled, heavier weight, trigger guarded is less. Save you cash for a set of red stag grips and voila.

Re: Anyone input on Bond Arms

I would have to agree with RT51. I owned a BA Snake Slayer for about two years and they are fun but a couple points are worth mentioning. 1. They are heavy! for the weight and size of a thick derringer you would likely be happier (and better served) with a snubby revolver. 2. They don't carry as well as you would expect a derringer to because of the size and thickness. 3. Two shots is fun, but carrying around a pocket full of rounds is annoying, and reloading would be out of the question if you were being harassed by a gator or a boar.
4. Most important, the trigger is horrible! several times I was shooting the BA derringer and I would start putting pressure on the trigger, more pressure, more pressure and nothing. You have to compromise your secure grip in order position your trigger finger for the proper angle of pull. And to get that angle your hand has to be further up the grip (at the hammer) if you put any pressure against the hammer the trigger has a hard time tripping the hammer no matter how hard you pull. Rules out using gloves, cold or wet hands, shooting in the dark, etc. I would never carry one as a backup or large animal deterrent because there is no guarantee that it will not give you trouble and not fire due to the angle of trigger pull (yes, I know that practice makes perfect but an unreliable and picky trigger is a death sentence for a carry gun, and the shooter).

Overall, I saw too many negatives and liabilities to keep it. On a positive note, it looks great, shoots accurately, built like a tank, and has interchangeable barrels. But I had to admit that it was purely a novelty and the detractors outweighed the benefits. I hope this helps in your decision making. Good luck.

Re: Anyone input on Bond Arms

Guys thanks for the input. I think I am going to get a chest rig for my 4 5/8 super black hawk, load it with 3 shot shells and 3 hot hollow points and be done with. I have a 6 shot ammo wallet I can throw in my pocket for back up. I really like the south but my god there are some scary critters down here. I am learnign to keep one eye on the fish and the other on the ones that want to eat you.
