Rifle Scopes Anyone with experience with the IOR 10 x 56?

Well I didn't think it was taking a chance. Maybe quality has tanked in the last few years but my instructor (USMC sniper, Army Sniper instructor and contractor) in '08 was a big IOR fan and had one on his M40A-1. I had never heard of them prior to that.

I have been told to 'avoid IOR' but in my searching I don't see anything beyond the typical failure that happens with any production item. If you have a bad experience with a Ford you never buy another one, but there are a bunch of others that run years with no problem.

Im trying to get a perspective on things- is it chronic 59% of them "fall apart" or was yours an unusual one?

on a positive note, before it failed, did it hold zero well? Was it as bright and clear as I would expect it to be with such a large objective?

im thinking this, or an ultra 10X which would then move to a future M24. Im sure your vote would be for the Ultra but back then (and several reports since) they were having trouble holding zero with Leupold. And to get a fixed 10x56 with target turrets from them, I'd be waiting a long time I think. They got a bit funny about selling their ranging reticle and "tactical" models in general...

anyway, thank you for the reply, and if you'd care to elaborate on "fell apart" I'm all ears (or eyes as it were).

Thank you!

Cracked internal lenses and debris bouncing around inside them. My one good one I sold to a guy on this site a few years' back.

At the prices IOR scopes are retailing for now you are much much better off buying a nightforce/bushnell/leupold/bunch of other options people will no doubt suggest.

Parallax was unable to be corrected. 1-1.5 MOA worth of parallax play at most ranges, sometimes worse. Next to a NF NXS 2.5-10x32 and 3.5-15x50, clarity was trailing (IOR saw brown where the NF's saw roof shingles).

Less than impressed. Overall reminiscent of soviet/com-bloc era stuff.

IOR's 10x56 always had issues. 10x42 was much better and it was really a very decent scope last time I looked at it (admittedly a while back).

Still, if you are looking for a 10x in that general performance range, SWFA 10x42HD is very competitive and very reliable.

For the money the regular non-HD 10x42 from SWFA is very hard to beat though.

Thanks for the input guys.

And im a bigger fan of Canon (L) glass than any other on earth. Even Schott. And Zeiss.

But it when I looked through my instructors scope the image quality overall was excellent. Clarity and contrast were good to the edges. Color was not perfect but that is more of a concern with photography than shootin stuff.

I think at at this point it's either the IOR new, or an abused Leupold Mark 4 10x. The latter will be handy for a future M24 so that may be my answer.

How about the USO ST-10? I think I like it. 30mm tube so I'll have to get some Badger rings and mount a Picatinny rail (which I already have) but it sort of has the vibe of the Unertl and should be acceptable on the A-1 in the short term. Or, however long it takes to scrape up five grand for a correct Unertl.

Any reason to avoid this one? It's older but I found a lightly abused (old stock demo at authorized dealer) one for "reasonable" money.

Just wanted to see if I was making a mistake or not. Barrel is inbound so I need to make a decision, or stick with the Bushnell.

Thanks guys!
