Dumb question. Does the AR-10 BCG need to be disassembled and cleaned and if so, does anyone have a link to the disassembly/reassembly instructions?

I've heard that the BCG is different from an AR-15 type BCG.

As always, many thanks in advance for excellent advice,

CT

Re: AR-10 BCG Cleaning

Yes it does need to be removed, cleaned and properly lubed. I don't think that a complete break-down of the BCG is necessary after each trip out (unless you have been dragging it through the sand, mud, muck, rain, etc.), but it never hurts to keep the moving parts cleaned/lubed!!

Here is a link to the Armalite manual for the AR-10 which described disassembly, cleaning, etc.:

Re: AR-10 BCG Cleaning

One hint about the cam pin shown on page 33, it fits tight going past the bolt carrier key when you remove it. It's that way by design and when they're new, you may have to carefully prythe cam pim past using a small screwdriver. Don't sand or stone either the cam or the key.
