I know Armlite AR-10s will take modified M14 mags.
Will other lowers take pre-ban mags?

Ideally I would like to get a GAP-10 in 260 and have it accept pre-ban mags (as I'm stuck in a Mass-hole ban state.)
Or should I just go with a M1A? What would I be the trade offs in terms of function, accuracy and durability?

I know you can do it with PMAGs </div></div>

Good to know, but I'm not sure that makes it legally ban compliant.
But really my whole point in wanting pre-ban mags is to get the extra rounds since it is a semi auto.

Pre-ban, 20-round magazines for use in NY, MA, etc. can be had for the SR-25/DPMS pattern lowers (such as the one used on the GAP-10 made by POF) but they may not work 100%. These pre-ban mags are commonly found on BARFCOM, GunBroker, etc. described as "Original Armalite AR-10 Waffle mags" such as those seen here:

They are expensive as hell and even for those living behind enemy lines, may not be worth it in the long run when you can get MULTIPLE, current production limited capacity mags for the same price as a single pre-ban waffle mag.

I didn't think there were any around. Don't think I'll be paying $100 for unreliable mags. Thanks

The LAR-8 opens up a ton of old mags you can use. You can also buy lowers to use G3 mags. They don't hold the bolt open on the last round but the mags are dirt cheap.

You could always find a PTR or FN-FAL for a grand or so and get your battle rifle 20 round mag itch there and then get a GAP 10 in 260 w/10 round mags and use that for a target rifle.

edit: pinning a 20 round mag to 10 is perfectly legal. MidwestPX does special 10-15 round 308 pmags for ban states.

Thanks for the suggestion.
It's not a "battle rifle" itch. I just don't see the point of limiting a semi-auto's mag capacity. This state bothers me some times.

I'm looking hard at the LAR-8, maybe in 243. It does have some nice features, ambi mag release and ambi bolt release.
I'm just not sold on the RRA yet.

Come to California. Make sure to read up on Bullet Buttons beforehand though. </div></div>
Thanks, I always look at you guys and smile.
I think, "It could be worse." Makes me feel better.
Then I get mad again thinking, "What is this country coming too?"
