Gunsmithing AR-15 trigger job???

I went out to shoot some test loads out of the .308 and figured I'd warm up the moth-balled AR while I was out. What I realized was that the (OEM Bushmaster pre Clinton Ban) trigger sucks royal ass. It must be a 12-15 lb trigger or close to it. Anyway, I figured somebody on here must know of a machining (I work as a machinist) trick to lighten the pull...

Thanks in advance!

Re: AR-15 trigger job???

Don't screw with it yourself unless you know what you are doing. The .308's aren't .223's: they recoil. Drop in a two-stage. Spend the money.

Is it really just a drop in or will I have to do some milling/drilling to the lower (that's not a problem to do just want to know what I'm looking at)

Re: AR-15 trigger job???

A local here installs a screw in the bottom of the trigger at the rear to preload the sear engagement. If you have to then you can take a little off the head of the screw to adjust the "weight". You may have to take a little off the top to clear the safety lever. Got mine right at 4 3/4lbs and very crisp.

Re: AR-15 trigger job???

there is a thread here on this i think. youtube has a few videos on tricks you can do. they make reduced power springs. use yahoo or google and there is even a gunsmith institute video on trigger jobs on cd. brownells and midway carry it

You may have to remove metal from the safety, but not the receiver.

+1 on that buisness
Bill did my trigger last year...I sent it to him on a Friday and had it back in hand Thursday afternoon.
Just a lighter spring pack from Brownells but he does a bit of work on the hardware too.
