Optic: Bushnell Tactical 2-.5-16x42
So, I've been contemplating for some time now how and where I want to mount this.
My idea- I would like to mount this on a flat top AR for the time being and have the ability to detach and remount without too big of a hassle.
* In the somewhat near future I would like for this to be able to move to a bolt gun which has yet to be determined. My optics get ancy from time to time, so most don't have permanent homes.
My first idea was to get a one piece cantilever mount (Leupold mark2/4, vortex, american defense etc...) I was thinking in the neighborhood between 1-$200.
I don't mind spending a bit of cash for the mount but do not want to splurge on something that will only work in one place and later spend the same or more to have it move elsewhere.
So my new idea (where I need help) is:
Buy a quick detach extended rail (such as the accucam scout)-
Then, buy either a traditional one piece mount or rings (lower in height and not forward) that would provide enough flexibility to be mounted on another rifle. I am hoping with the smaller objective (42mm) this type of transition can be done while keeping optimal clearance.
Questions:
Brand for rail? I've been considering accucam scout. I've heard good things...
Rings or 1 piece mount?
Height?
Other thoughts or suggestions?
I figured it would be money well spent to invest eg. $250-300 for this setup opposed to perhaps skimping slightly on them separate or spending double to get the same higher quality twice. The way I look at it, it is allocating money to the scope and the rifle. Its easier for me to justify eg. $100 for an extended optic rail for an AR and $150-$200 for a mount for the scope then $200 for a mount that works on one rifle and $200 for another (for the same scope). Just the way my mind works.
I understand this isn't the traditional way to go and do not plan on 'rigging' this if it the numbers don't match up.
If any of you are already doing this please share any experience, pics, etc...
thanks in advance for everything any of you can offer, its much appreciated.
