Hey, I'm brand new here and I have been searching the internet for advice on this, since I have a rare-ish situation here in northern connecticut. My ATF Form 1 (SBR) got kicked back saying the "Law Enforcement Certification is Invalid" with the comment "SGT of state police cannot sign, resubmit 2 new forms".

He was the highest law enforcement official in my jurisdiction. I'm just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this and who I have to go to, to get this thing signed.

Thanks,

Brian

762frmmar may be able to help a little more but in my research...You need a CLEO, Chief. A Sgt. isn't going to be of much help.

Another good reason to just go ahead and do a trust.

I realize this, however, we only have Resident State Troopers, and no 'chief of police'.

If I resubmit these forms with a trust, is that gonna be a problem?

Re: ATF Form 1 Kicked Back

On your Form 1 that was kicked back there is probably the examiner’s name on it who worked the issue. Give them a call and explain your situation and see what they say. That way you will know if you need to do a Trust of not. The ATF guys are not that bad and will explain the regulations to you. I had to call this year on a Form 1 for clarification and they helped.

Re: ATF Form 1 Kicked Back

Sounds like he got the wrong LEO to sign the form. Depending on what state you are in, depends who they consider the CLEO to be. In Maryland all forms are signed by a representative of the firearms division of MSP.

Good luck

Re: ATF Form 1 Kicked Back

I use the state police in New Mexico. You have to get the CHIEF of the State Police. NOT the highest ranking state police guy in your area.

If you want a local guy to sign off, get your city's CHIEF of Police or County SHERIFF to sign off.

It is a CLEO signoff. You just misread the instructions.

Re: ATF Form 1 Kicked Back

I was approve with a Sgt signature. I had to go to the county shreiff, and then I was told it had to be the county office that has juristication over where I live. The highest was a Sgt and everything was approved.
