Thanks for the interest in the Atlas, the Harris is a great bipod and if it is serving you well, there's no need to change what works.
The angled forward leg position was conceived to provide;
- Lower position for prone
- Greater range of height adjustment
- Provide better positioning when shooting high angle shots
As to why some people photograph their rifles with the legs at the 45 position, it is a novel feature that most people recognize and associate with the Atlas and would appear they like to show that feature.
For me, I'm humbled by it.
