Aviation is but 120+ years old, where will it be in the next 40-50?

Aviation is thousands of years old.

What I think is neat is how tough planes are. They can leave a hole in a building or even the ground in the shape of the plane, like Roadrunner running through a wall. Amazing stuff.

From first flight to Jets in what 42-43 years. Then less than +/- 20 years later, 3+ times the speed of sound and able to take off from a runway on earth and fly into outer space. So you best guess,... or will a transporter type device off registry number NCC-1701 take over?

Perhaps military or global elites will have some cool stuff.

But for the average citizen, consider this:

We are now stuck with flying slower and less comfortably and with way more hassle than back in the late 80s
Even the normal subsonic jets are flying slower and of course air travel is a nightmare of hostile inconvenience and trouble.
Flying was decent back in the 80s, not so much today.

The emphasis IMO will be on efficiency and possibly alternative fuel sources.
