Left the cabin in SW Ontario at 0500 yesterday morning and pulled into the drive at 2330 last night. Had a great time and got my batteries charged up to get me through another year. The weather was very warm which meant the bugs were thick and the fishing slower than colder years but I have no complaints (other than being covered from head to toe with mosquito and black fly bites).

This is my 8th year and we usually fish four lakes which have lake trout and northern pike. This year we made a 1/2 mile portage through a swamp to get to a new (to us) lake for some walleye and it was well worth it. Found out the new lake also holds beautiful smallmouth so we're up to four species to chase while we're there.

Yes they are cheater pics but they were nice fish anyway. Didn't get a scale on the smallmouth but the walleye was 6lb 4oz, the lake trout was around 7lb and the pike around 9lb. If you've never been to Ontario to wet a line I highly recommend it!

Re: Back from Ontario

We're not far in but it sure seems remote once we get there. It's north of rainy lake in SW Ontario. We stay on Silvertip lake than fish it and four of the surrounding lakes. You can see it marked NE of Mine Centre HERE.

Re: Back from Ontario

I'm not making any "Light beer" comments just yet.

Oh what the hell,,,, in Canada, ALL American beer is "lite" in the loafers......

(did I say that out loud?)

Looks like you've had a good trip, didn't bring enough DEET?

May is one of the best times to feed the blackflies.

That's up near Quetico. It's nice country, and desolate. You are one major highway from where the major roads stop: north of Highway 17 there's nothing. And north of that, flying in is your best bet.

Glad you had fun.
