I Am looking at loading up some Barnes ttsx 150,165,168,and 180 bullets. I have always used Varget powder for my loads with my SMK but can't find load data for Varget powder with a few of the grain suggestions above, there is a few on there website for the 168, should I stick with Varget or use the suggested powder depending on the grain bullet according to their charts?

Re: Barnes powder choice

I see no reason not to use the 168 data for the 165s IF you are working up the load from the bottom.

I would probably just keep using varget. I have had good luck using it with plenty of bullets. The hodgdon website has lots of data that would probably be helpful.

Again, just use the starting load and work your way up and you will be fine.

Re: Barnes powder choice

I use the 168gr TTSX with Varget in my Savage 10FP and get great results. Here is my load:

Lapua brass
CCI BR2 primers
44.1 gr Varget
168 gr Barnes TTSX
COAL is 2.80"
Velocity is right at 2700 fps

I get 1/2 MOA to 300 yards with this load and it has been an incredible perfomer on whitetails and wild hogs.

The Barnes bullets like a little bit of a jump so don't start them seated out to the lands. Maybe start .030" to .050" off the lands.

I have also had really good luck with IMR 4064 and Reloader 15 with the 168's. Hope this helps.
