Gunsmithing BARREL SELECTION.

Re: BARREL SELECTION.

Oh hell, here we go.

Thats a pretty wide open question. Lets start by refining it to get some better answers...

Caliber?
Bullet weight?
Type of shooting?
Barrel profile?
Action to be used?
Length of finished barrel?

Yeah, answer those and that'll be a start.

Re: BARREL SELECTION.

As Kenda said nicely, your question sucks, need lots more info.

Also, don't double post in multiple areas, I deleted the other one already.

Re: BARREL SELECTION.

When I was trying to decide on a barrel for my first custom (7 SAUM), I asked that same question. I mean, one of them has to be the best, right?
The conclusion I ultimately came to is there is not one barrel maker that stands above all the rest. Most custom barrel makers have the potential to produce an amazingly accurate barrel. Talk to the smith building the rifle and see what he recommends, then go from there.

Re: BARREL SELECTION.

Broughton in 6.5 has been a good performer. Been hearing good things of benchmark too.

I know.. But it is already done.. sold on longrangehunting.com this evening to a fellow looking to hook up his Remington 700 sendero .300 win mag.. He should be really happy with it, after all it is a MIKE ROCK!!

I really wanted an MTU contour barrel, but they didn't have any available when I was shopping, so I bought the M24.. I have an MTU on the way and it will be here tomorrow!

Re: BARREL SELECTION.

Who makes the best car? What's the best hamburger joint? How many cheerios does it take to encircle the earth? Only one of these has a right answer, step back and rethink this proposition.

Re: BARREL SELECTION.

Half of the fun in this stuff is doing the searching and trying different barrels etc to figure it out. Stay with the name brands and you won't be wrong. Happy Hunting
