Quick question for some of the gunsmiths out there. If I take a chassis and bed it for an Impact action, can I then take any impact action out there and throw it in the chassis and it will effectively work as if it was bedded for that action? Basically what I'm asking is for well machine custom actions that are machined good enough for pre-fits (Impact, Bighorn etc) is a bed job model specific (interchangable between serial numbers) or S/N specific?

My guess is "yes" for Impact, if they can hold internal tolerances during manufacturing the external tolerances should be good too. I know for Bighorn actions some smiths use a machined blank cylinder with a lug for bedding. Has a slightly oversized lug for clearance and no holes to tape up so it is much easier to prep and get in/out of the bedding compound. I think Josh at PVA was the one I saw using it.
