Blemish on new LaRue 7.62 lower receiver.

After comments about large frame UU's I went and checked mine. And for the record, I bought the UU that was designed to fit on an Aeroprecision receiver, not the LaRue receiver. Again, part of my theory of why buy a $300 receiver when I can find one for under $200.

OP would lose his mind if he saw how the upper and lower match up. Visually, it is a disaster.

However, the upper and the lower lock up tight as a drum. No play whatsoever. And the gun shoots lights out, so no impact on performance.

Plus, LaRue let me order a suppressor at their reduced price ($400) about 2 years after I bought the upper.

But for those of you obsessed with how your AR looks, rather than how it functions, I have a suggestion:

Been using this kit for years now in case if anyone is questioning its quality.

In LT's defense,

You are looking at around 1300 for a large frame upper kit and lower, if you subtract the MB and 2 mags he forces you to buy with the kit. That puts the Large frame upper kit in direct competition with PSA as they sell theirs for around 1250.

Thats really how one needs to look at the LT UU Kits, Its a bargain basement kit. Nothing more, nothing less.
Larue mags are top notch. right up there with KAC factory 20 rounders.

The UU kits are a really good deal. Is Larue the greatest shit ever? No. Are they better than 90% of the shit on the market? I would say yes.

Both the Large and the small frame UU are one of the best deals out there. High quality parts , feature rich. Are they $3K+ quality? No but you are paying 1/3 of that.

You are right on, these are priced next to shit like PSA, MP10 and other bottom barrel guns.

I have 2 of them and have been pleasently suprised by them. The long wait sucks but show me something else with comparable quality even $500 more. Plan to drop in a proof carbon 6.5G when I shoot mine out.

Personally speaking, as long as one know what they are buying, and be realistic in their expectations out of the rifle, i see no issues with any of the lower priced stuff. For example, Larue has a 3000 dollar option, and they also have a 1300 dollar option. I am not saying that the 1300 dollar option is a bad rifle in any respects, but its not going to be built to the same standard as the 3000 dollar option. As long as the 1300 dollar option runs reliably and offers acceptable accuracy from the barrel profile, it can be an awesome option for somebody.

Personally speaking. While Mark is not my favorite internet personality , I would absolutely pick one of their Large frame UU kits before say PSA or SW.

The only other 308 rifle in that price range that I would consider is the Sig 716i Tread. Its seems a little heavier, and is a Sig, so QC is iffy at best.

Quick update. Looks like OP joined just to bitch about a stripped receiver LaRue offered to replace.

He's now got some posts on ARFCOM bitching about the same thing.

Will even send you pics of each one so you can pick the prettiest. Get me ur FFL info. Larue sucks you don’t want them anyway. @Nepa1990 .

It’s hilarious, they are calling him a crybaby and drama queen over there to.

Waiting for him to post on nextdoor so he can rally all the Karen’s next.
The funny thing is that he is saying that he is going to sell or return the LT and pick up an SR25. Dude is going to stroke out when he finds out that Mil guns may not be up to his cosmetic standards

Oh Just remembered,

When I put called up the Mil sales guy and put in my ordered, I asked them if they could mount a MAMS on it and they told me nope... Call one if there vendors/armors to set that up. They don't do quasi custom orders. I laughed about that, but I get it, considering there main market. Its all good. Going to run my Dead Air Sandman until I track down one of there newer PRS cans.

I'd be embarrassed to complain about that to be honest.

Told you all, this board is turning into arfcom as they ban more people......

........cause you’ve clearly contributed a ton to the forum over the years.

Fuck...this thread is entertaining...carry on! Where'd the OP go? More pages please!

Lol. So contributing nonsensical posts about cheap bargain lowers is your criteria for contributing? Moronic at best, pathetic logic at present

Careful, the hall monitor will chastise you.

I should note that the problem actually carries over to the other text on the lower. Model & serial number. So it more than likely is a programming error or CNC error. Like I said, I understand this doesn’t impede function whatsoever, and although no one else might have noticed this, I tend to notice these things.

I’d expect this from a PSA offering; which is why I didn’t go that route, I didn’t mind spending a premium on a premium product, but it’s not what I received.

Also - not meant to be an interesting first post. I’ve lurked here awhile, and most of you guys seem pretty good. If I posted this on arfcom, I’d get responses that told me I’m not a true operator, etc, etc.

Just disappointed all around. I was looking forward to this rifle a lot. Customer service had also told me expected wait times for 7.62 uppers is now at 8 month’s.

Honestly, cosmetic issues are near the bottom of my list of priorities. I'm sure someone has mentioned this before, but IMHO, a basic AR lower receiver is a basic AR lower receiver and this is one of the reasons why I buy the cheaper PSA and rebuild on it.

I agree with you that when you pay more, you deserve to get a great product. I just choose not to spend good money for non-mechanical reasons.

Really, it's my problem, not yours.

My rifles work, and in truth, they tend to get beat up a bit after awhile. I could let it bother me, but choose not to. When I see that ding or three, I think of it as added character. You'd probably get irked at the few deep dings my pre-war Garand's stock has acquired, too but I takes what I get and it does what it does, no biggie. It' just character.

But yeah, I’m gonna just keep it and see what it does. If the thing ends up being a hammer, I’ll hunt with it and enjoy it. Worst to worst I’ll sell it and get something else. It’s life.

Why? Will it blow up?
Those inclusions are indicitive of micro cracks and as you use the gun those cracks will grow eventually turning your gun into a grenade. I would suggest shooting only in a full suit of body armor with Helmet and ANSI rated eye protection. Also make sure your will is up to date and you dont have any porn on your computer.

I guess the chances of that happening will make range days interesting.. at the least. If I meet my end in the explosion I won’t care about the porn found or the poor bastards who will have to foot the bill for my expenses.

Body armor or EOD vest? You also forgot to add a helmet for his johnson.

I bought a new LaRue 7.62X51 PredatAR with a 16"bbl. 2.5-10 Vortex Viper it was flawless when received in 2010/11 (I think) but it has more than a few character marks now the results of a match where you have 20min to shoot 20 rounds at ranges from 100yrds standing 1 round to 700yrds prone at a target bearing a face you have had 10min to look at. You fire your 1st shot standing from the bench at 100yrds and then you have the rest of your time to identify and engage targets bearing the face assigned to you from 200 to 700yrds and usually the yardage is not a even number not 700yrds, but 696 or 432 0r 538. I'm old and slow so I lose the match during the snail crawl I do from the bench to the prone position!!!

Great post

Speaking of garands, i put a nic on a vg condition McFarland stock on 43 springfield. Boy was i pissed the realized, its character of sorts

I ordered an Issue Grade DCM Garand sometime back in the early 1990's for $250. It arrived by mail and in the box was a nice Garand vacuum packed in a plastic bag; no Cosmo. Upon opening, it was literally unmarked, except for a fairly prominent dent in the lower front part of the stock. It has a 5 digit SA serial. Being Garand illiterate at the time, I also noted that there was NO wear on the metal, the only wear was the wear I was putting on it by cycling the action manually.

I had literally no idea what it was that I held in my hand. I took it to the range, ran some 150gr American Eagle through it and pronounced it just dandy. I had been trained at Camp Geiger on the Garand in 1966. It was my issue rifle during ITR training; so the operator issues were ingrained.

In the next few months it became one of my early glassbedding projects, and was also subjected to a buncha coats of hand rubbed boiled linseed oil. The monster ding remains, as it should.

Shooting somewhat better now with the glassbedding, I started collecting and reading the available literature.

It was fabricated in October of 1940. It is shooting to National Match specs (with handloads), and without any metal mods (still hasn't any). I added the N/M sights, front and rear, and substituted that gawshawful looking extended rubber buttpad to accommodate my lanky build.

The rifle is a dream to shoot. I have turned down 5K to sell it. I did a Summer handloading project, and built up 1000rd of M2 Ball Equivalent in clips and M-1923 ammo belts (4 50 cal cans), and collected up a pretty full set of available Garand tools.

About the only thing I'm not equipped to do is change a barrel. The current barrel is marked as a 1953 Winchester. The rifle's overall appearance is of an arsenal rebuild in the Korean War Era.

She comes out to play every Spring and Autumn. It is joy defined.

Or due to the frequency and location of those inclusions, they are part of the design to make it look more rustic. I actually think they look cool.

They are billet lowers, not forged or castings. So its either by code or some wonky tool work gone wrong. If you look at where they are it looks like a pattern.

You really don't know what your talking about. $300 is about the going rate for a billet lower, some more depending on features.

These lowers are ONLY sold to people with Larue uppers so they are a small production limited item.

No one is selling Chinese lowers, especially Larue.

Everytime I think I have read the dumbest shit in here, some says hold my beer and watch this.
Crabsandfootball, are you by any chance from Maryland??

Thanks maryland blue crabs are to die for!!!!
I do live in MD, love hard crabs, love good soft shells even more. :)

I crab w a buddy who lives off the Chester River. It’s his boat we use and we are going to set it up w a trot line this year. Been using pots so far but looking to up our game.

as for the fella who was banned, I’m not not heartbroken at his absence, tbh.

Sell it and start over if you don’t like it or you won’t wont ever be happy. There are companies that give a shit.

When I got to Ft. Benning in spring of 2001, they handed me an FN with a bunch of blemishes. The receiver had silver marks all over it and talk about the scratches! Fucking tools. I told 'em I wasn't gonna take that shit, that they could do better. I got my drill sergeant to file a complaint.

Eventually I got to my unit and we all got brand new in the box Colts --without the blemishes. Ah, bliss.

Penis envy. The poors are just jealous.

I have yet to meet someone who has run a KAC gun hard who does not use them as their primary Rifle. I can't tell you how many times I have lent my rifle to people shooting a class and they come back asking where they can buy one. Mod 0 mod 1, doesn't matter.

Once you get there, you realize there is no reason to shoot anything else.

The first time I took my wife to the range (then gf), I brought some bolt guns and my KAC SR15. We shot some bolt guns, and then swapped over to the KAC. The wife fired off two rounds, looked at me with a huge smile on her face and said "that's a bad bitch!".

She considers the KAC hers now. Some days I feel like she just married me for the KAC :ROFLMAO:

There are blemishes on most of the letters that spell "Tactical" also, did you notice those as well?

I definitely wouldn't be happy. If they are offering to exchange it, I would take them up on it.

Did they offer an explanation as to why they are blemishes on so many of them?
