Gunsmithing Bore Rust/Pitting Question

I recently picked up an early Model 700 BDL in 7 MM Rem. Mag, sort of an impulse buy. Cosmetically it's a little rough but the action is solid. When I looked down the bore while at the gun shop, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. When I got it home and ran a dry patch down it, I could feel a couple sections that "dragged" like the patch was riding over some rust. Closer inspection with better lighting and I see some areas (red arrows) that I'm unsure about. The rifle doesn't look abused, just neglected. I have some reservations about shooting it. Are these feelings warranted or is there little risk in shooting this rifle with the bore in the condition shown?

Thanks,
Fret

+1

Just shoot it - I'll bet it shoots right nice-like.

Re: Bore Rust/Pitting Question

I have used the finest grit Tubbs final finish to deal with a couple rough spots in a couple bores with moderate success. I have also used automotive polishing compound to lap a few smokepole barrels as they are notoriously bad and had pretty good results with that as well. Just clean the hell out of it with butches bore shine or the like while you're at it and start sending them downrange!
