I have a sporter model 70 in 300 weatherby.

As you can see, she is light, and a bear to shoot (especially prone).

I hate the added noise of a brake, but this rifle has less than 100 rounds through it, so I cannot justify swapping barrels out yet. So I am thinking of just dealing with the noise, to see if I can tame the recoil a little bit in the current configuration.

Does anyone have any experience with trying to add a brake to thin barrels?

Vais makes a slim, and very effective brake. The only negative is it vents 360* and kicks up a little dust when shooting prone in the dirt.

KDF is another very good brake for your application. It does have ports 360 degrees also though. A brake on that rifle will make a big difference, and worth doing. Best of luck.

Thanks guys, those references will help.

Eventually, I want to put a heavier contour on her, but like I said, with a brand new bore, its kinda hard to just cast it aside. And its pretty sweet to carry in its current state.
