SITUATION REPORT: BALTIMORE BRIDGE COLLAPSE- At 1:28 a.m. ET, a large container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.- Large parts of the bridge immediately collapsed, sending multiple vehicles into the water, including a group of construction workers.- Rescue workers believe at least 7 construction workers were on the bridge but say the figure could be as high as 20.- The container ship, the Singapore-flagged Dali, was leaving Baltimore for Sri Lanka. The ship suffered major damage, including a possible breach in the hull.- The cause of the collision was not immediately clear. The ship appeared to lose power in the minutes before the crash.- Rescue work is ongoing as of 4:15 a.m.

The video shows the ship going dark (no lights) around the 10 sec mark, and then the lights come back on just before impact with the support. Engine power loss, or a mechanical issue of some type ???

The video shows the vessel had a black-out, then the emergency generator must have kicked in. Then shortly after, that stopped as well. This seem to have coincided with a stbd helm order. Meaning the ship had no power to steer once stbd rudder was applied and no way to avoid hitting the bridge support.

The ship seems to be steering towards the right after it loses power. Once power comes back on it seems to straighten out.

Is that what is happening?

It’s a HUGE boat/ship….reverse at that point if like trying to wrestle a greased pig in a kiddie pool. It’s not going to happen as easy as one wants. Given the “timing” of the power failure it’s going to be a bit before anyone knows the truth…if ever. Not to mention I’d bet there’s people on there from other countries, meaning….how to get them to stay/cooperate and who covers those costs??

What a goat fuck. Not to mention the port traffic, traffic that drives over the bridge, not to mention moving ALL that shipping traffic to other ports. UUUGGGHHH.

The ship is in a river that does not always move in a straight line. Constant steering is needed to keep it going straight. Remove the steering and crap happens.

Loosing power is a very uncomfortable feeling at the best of times. This was not the best of times...

It seems Bridge engineers did not get the WTC building 7 memo that steel structures are supposed to sympathetically disintegrate not stubbornly hold together till the end

Looks like whoever was steering the ship stayed with it until right before impact. You can see somebody get up and bolt right before it hits and the lights go out. I'm all for a good conspiracy and all but unless we find out some politician or someone of importance was on that bridge I'm leaning toward mechanical malfunction and accidental demolition of the bridge.

If they wanted to really cause some terror they'd have crashed the ship into that bridge around 7:30am.

I wonder how long it will take BUTTiggi (aka buttboy) to visit? I don't think any from the polit-bureau went to that huge train derailment a year or two ago. Butt, this is much closer to home for them and not just rural America.

Yet another sad day in what's left of our country.

This is going to be Hell on the traffic. Much if not most of the traffic will now have to use the Harbor tunnels. And that means extra scrutiny by the MTAP over porting "haz mats" and firearms inside. Incidents like this are why the MTAP does that level of scrutiny at the tunnels. They can probably get this bridge back up quickly. Imagine if this (or something similar) had happened to one of the tunnels. It couild take them years to rebuild it, if they could at all.

I guess the Haz Mat trucks will have to find some other alternatives. Maybe the Chesapeake Bay Bridge through Annapolis or something.

Driving while Oriental strikes again…

Shouldn’t there be a pilot for that entry?

Looks accidental…. Going to be some fun traffic nightmares in DC area for a few months. All those fancy homes out in MD…

Sirhr

Edit. Two American pilots aboard bringing the ship in. Whoever said power failure at the wrong time above… bet that’s right. Does Boeing build container ships?

Always thought tug boats brought ships in and out. Guess not.

Some of you maritime guys can correct me… but I think a lot of ships how have thrusters and the like for maneuvering that used to be done by tugs.

I think most tugboats now are for towing barges and big things like oil rigs and maritime rescue/salvage. Not for escorting/ berthing ships.

But I may be totally wrong.

Somewhere we must have an Expert on this? Where’s our merchant marine snipers?

Sirhr

I think it was an accident. Looks like they lost power for a moment. Then, when the power came back on, they thought they were further along than they actually were and the pilot turned hard right to avoid the other support when he was actually driving into the near support.

Its 100% power failure. We have the video. You can see boat losing power and lights twice before impact. They regained control right before impact and nothing could be done.

Now you are doing to see more bollards and stand offs installed on every bridge support in country to prevent this from happening. Channels will get much narrower.

My Great Grandfather on Dad's side was a boat captain out of the port of Baltimore before WW2. He had 10 kids with his first wife then remarried a woman with 5 kids. He was commissioned in the Merchant Marines during WW2 and drove liberty ships for the next 10 years. Came back, got his 16 year old step daughter pregnant, signed all his real estate over to his wife and moved to brazil to live out his life. Found some evidence he moved to guam under a assumed name and had a whole different life.

My grandfather on moms side was in tight with Tommy Delesandro (Nancy Peloski's Dad) and hooked up with baltimore jew mob and democratic party. He had the contract to clean the I95 tunnel (which this bridge was built to divert traffic from) through some kind of shenanigans. Was a key player in democratic party.

The stories my dad tells about both sides of the fam is nuts. Could make a movie out of the shit.

Baltimore is a weird place.

Cruise ships are pretty much the only ships with directional thrusters. All others use harbor tugs for docking and undocking.
This one was underway apparently and lost control.

2 pilots were on board. Still could have been state act of terror. Remote in and cut power. It's how I would do it if I was china or russia. Deniability while cripling major economic center of adversary.

FBI and state police have shut down fort Armistead and have road blocked from ft. Smallwood.

Curtis Bay which is the biggest coast guard yard in world is also behind the bridge. All their shit is now trapped too.

Somebody on another forum I am on seems "familiar" with the abilities of the various heavy salvage operators in the USA. He thought that the channel could be cleared of debris for ship traffic to resume within ~2-3 weeks... that is IF somebody makes a decision to call(and pay) all hands...

I'd agree. Lot's of more modern ships have side thrusters Or even main propulsion systems where the props turn like rudders. But they still need a local harbor pilot for things like "currents," "obstructions," "shallow water areas," things like that. The master (Captain) along with the helmsman will do the ship handling, but the local pilot tells them where to go.

What kinda water temps do you have there?

Yeah… but if a state actor was doing it, they’d have picked a more important port. Baltimore is a lot of east coast containers and cars. And the CG. But also fuck the lives of the whole upper crust swamp commuters.

I never assign malice or “operations” to things that incompetence, lack of maintenance and bad judgement can handle just fine.

We’ll probably find out the crew was DEI hired and quals had been pencil whipped and the generator was past due for scheduled maintenance.

“Never give the enemy credit for things your own stupidity can accomplish” — Sun tzu or Clausewitz or Jomani or some army philosopher shit.

Black box telemetry and radar from the port will tell the story.

Shit happens and a 1000 foot container ship takes over a mile to stop at slow to moderate speeds.

Also takes about 2 hours of warm up and 30 minutes after engines start to start moving.

The drama will unfold when we find out why there were or weren’t tugs. Either poor decision making or cost cutting so no tugs available.

Even with bow thrusters large ship captains request tugs when available
