I am looking to save a little move and possibly go with a Caldwell pivoting bipod. Does anyone have any experience with them. Also has anyone tried a different podloc handle like the ones you can get for a Harris. Sorry if this is a newb question but I did a search and did not find anything on this.

Thanks

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

I shoot with a guy that had one. he took it off and let me check it out. Then I even shoot a few rounds with it, on my gun.

IT'S NOT A HARRIS!!!.

Remember, you get what you pay for!
If you are just going to shoot at the range. it may b ok.
But, as fair as heavy use, it want hold up.

Hope this helps. Remember, this is the way I seen it!

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

I tried one, its made out of something much weaker than the Harris. A buddy was shootin my rifle and loaded the bipod and bent the whole thing. I will try and get a pic up of it to show ya where it bent

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

Im using one until I can afford a better replacement. It hasnt failed me and doesnt look like it will anytime soon. I move it between 2 or 3 rifles and it works good for me. It is a little flimsy, and the cant adjustment on mine is pretty loose and doesnt really like to stay tight.

If I could afford an Atlas or Harris with Claws I would have gotten one, but I could afford this at the time and am saving for the others.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

I have used 2 of them on knock around rifles. They are not Harris bipods, but they are not bad either for the cost. If I recall correctly, Midway offers a pod loc type tool. Don't hold me to that, but I think I did see that in their catalog.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

I've been wondering too. Even after I tighten the tension nut it still comes loose after you cant it back and forth a few times. I know its not a harris because I've owned harris' in the past but my fun money isn't much these days and its hard to pass up when you can almost buy 2 cadwells for the price of a harris.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

yes, Midway does offer a podloc outfit called "Alph Bravo"
they are not bad, for $15./

The way every one is going to Atlas, you can pick one up used @ a good deal!

Good luck!!

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

I got a caldwell just because it was cheap and I could get it immediately. Its a piece, if you want 1.5 - 2 MOA at best then ok. But if you want a decent one for a little more Academy also has Shooter's Ridge bipods that I've also tried, and now these are pretty impressive for the price, easily shooting 1 MOA, and nice holds out to 1,000 with it loaded up a little.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

Well I use a caldwell non pivoting and kinda know it is flimsy but as I said I am new with this. I will keep an eye on a used one for sale here and if not I will purchase a new one. Thanks for the info everyone.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

Drew,

The Pod-Loc kit will not fit any of the Chinese bipods. They use a metric thread spec on the rod. The Pod-Loc and most of it's knockoffs are made to work with 10-32 thread for compatiblity with the Harris.

History has shown that even if you cobble together a "cheap" pivot lock, doing so will almost always break the fake Harris. The material used in their construction is nothing short of junk when under any stress.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

Terry-Everyone,

Thanks for all the good info, I will keep an eye out for a Harris used on the for sale board on here. If not I think I will just go to Triad. I wish I could bring my self to get an Atlas.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

The shooters ridge "rockmount" bipod is well worth its money in my opinion. Like I said this is my opinion. I only use it for bench shooting. If i was going to be using it for field use, where we tend to get rough on things then Harris or Atlas is what yo want.

Re: Caldwell Pivot bipod - Harris podloc

Drew,
You are on the right track. Find a used one in the classifieds and then buy one of Terry's pod-locs. Together they are pretty nice. I have an atlas on one gun and a harris/podloc on the other. Each system has their unique benefits. With all the money we spend just on bullets to shoot, its well worth it to have a solid, dependable bipod.

Just my $.02
