Can I down-load to use magnum primers in non-magnum cartridge?

I have 600 large pistol magnum primers that came in a lot of reloading supplies I bought.

I recently acquired a Sig P220 (.45 ACP) and have some large pistol primers but as we all know, they are not exactly plentiful these days, so I'd sure like to be able to use the magnum primers, too.

If I download a few tenths or maybe half a grain (or more) can I safely use the magnum primers in .45 ACP handloads?

Yep no problem at all, just start low

back it off .5 grain and work back up
