I have a NIB Weatherby Vanguard in 30.06 which was won at a charity dinner/auction.. It has a nice laminated wood stock, which I want to keep. I have little use for a 30.06, and am contemplating rebarreling this into a 6.5 Creedmoor or a 25.06. I know to change to the 25.06 is not a problem. Is the long action of the Vanguard compatible with the Creedmor round? Thanks.

It is possible but, I wouldn't recommend it. IMHO, you would be better off selling it and getting something more appropriate to start with.

I have a savage in 30-06 that I have turned into a project and I have after alot of research gone with the 280AI. It was a toss up with the 284 and the 280AI. From the companies that I called in working with the action and feeding the 6.5 was not an option. If it would have been then that is what I would be building. If I missed something and someone knows more than the gunsmiths that I have talked to and it can be done please let it be known.

I don't see any reason why not...military runs 308s from long action 700s and lots of folks (myself included) have built 243/260/308s on Savage 110 long actions.

You can swap barrels and it will work just fine. The only problem you are going to encounter is a long feed. Jams won't be that common with that round.

Before I started in on the project I would look for a trade straight across for a short action. But, no worries if you don't find one or somebody wants to clean you out. Stick with the action you've got and swap barrels.
