I recently purchased a .338 and have been looking for the right supressor for it. but I have plans to buy a .408 or .416 in the next 4-5 years if possible. and I will prob buy a .50 some day. I just dont want to buy 4 more suppressors due to all the BS involved.

Will it still work ok? or would getting one that would fit the .416 and using it for the smaller guns be better? or would it not work at all and just be a waste of money until I had the right gun?

the 50 caliber will work on smaller calibers. Not as well as a suppressor made specifically for a designated caliber, but you will not know the difference. It is done all the time. Many 308 cans are used on 223 all the time.

My dad's Form 1 50 cal was his first home made can, he uses it all the time on various 22LR's and up. It's not as quiet as the dedicated 22 can that he now has, but it's still damn good.

Your application will work wonderfully on 308, 338LM, 408, 416, etc as long as you have a suppressor that can take the blast from them.

If it's built for a 50 BMG then it will shoot the others no sweat.

what you give up slop in the bore size you gain volume of the can.
You might be surprised at how well it sounds.

You have one too?! Man, it is pretty sweet. I had a TAB SAS cover made for it with a slight taper to it -- perfect fit.

Anyway, I am also a big believer in having at least one silencer for every caliber (but not necessarily for every rifle). Why use a larger silencer than you have to?

Because some people just cant afford to do that....
Suppressors get expensive and quick. especially when buying in groups of 2 or 3. Ive done 7 at a time and it was $1400 in tax stamps alone. wont do that again!

You collect them slowly, not all at once. Anyone who's looking at a $3K silencer to use on multiple $4K+ rifles can probably afford more than one.

I sent in five at once last year, two in july, and another six in the next month or so. Just how it falls.

Re: Can I use a .50 Cal Suppressor on 338 , 408 & 416

hi if the 50 is just a dream at this stage get a can for th 408 or 416 as it sounds like that would be the next one you build. I would recomend you built a 370 Chey Tac or Snipe tac though as they are a bit more versatile than the 408 or 416 but that is your choice. If you were looking at the 375's then the 375 can for a chey tac or similar would work well on the lapua. the problem you might have is the barrel threads the 50 cal threads are bigger than most 338 lapua barrels and if you want the rifle to portable the big 50 cal can will weigh a lot more and is also a lot bigger. you might find it is to big for the barrel to handle. Also the smaler calibre cans are cheeper than the larger ones as then use less material to make.

So the answer is yes but not the best option.

I think I will find a good can for either the 416 or 408 as those are more my final destination than a .50 anyways. I'd like to have a .50, but I dont dream about them at night.

I appreciate the input guys.
