Putting the finishing touches on my latest restoration and need to finish out the stereo system.

Cannot have anything obvious showing, keeping the factory look.

This is the head unit I went with:
    http://www.radiosforoldcars.com/newradio0F.htm

Also bought RF P132 3.5's to install in factory mono front dash location as well as RFP1694 6x9's.

Modified the front mono bracket to hold the 3.5's and no dice. Ducting just wont clear and modifying the ducting is not an option. 6x9's will go w/o issue as I made some slick adapters to bolt right up.

Question is, do I just run that head unit with the 6x9's, and or what do you think about running a RF P1T-S in place of the 3.5's?

Been out of the car audio world for several years now. Just need some tunes, but would like it to sound good, nothing spectacular.

    Thanks!

Re: Car Audio Guys, got a question.

We just had some Polk Audio DXI 6500 Component(Mid/crossover/Tweeters) installed in the front doors, and a pair of DXi 650's in the back doors of the Dak QC 4x4. AS to OEM looks, we ditched the OEM for a new Alpine that took the iPod. The new DXI's sound KILL er!

on old school 6x9's = garbage
New stuff rocks in Component sets and a little thoughtful placement makes them work nicely. My '66 Mustang had a Pioneer with dash, and package tray OEM 6x9's in it. I used the same locations and OEM covers with the new stuff so it looked like it was stock, HOWEVER, my Pop left it unlocked in front of the house when he drove it, adn my ride's tunes were long gone when I awoke the next day to see my car had been pillaged

I would try and rig somethng up so you can have speakers in front and in back. Another thought is leave the stock radio in place and install a nice after market in the glove box or other location. 6x9s will work for your purpose out back. 6.5" components mounted on a custom plate would be ideal.

Would you mind the look of aftermarket kick panel speaker mounts? Depending on the type of vehicle, they may not be too noticeable.

Re: Car Audio Guys, got a question.

Since I cannot get the 3.5's tucked up under the front dash in the factory location that is why I was asking if the tweets would sound ok, or just leave them off if no benifit.

Kick panels and 6.5's are naturally the best route, but no go on looks side.

If it was any car but this, I would have had this done.

    Thanks for the info fellas.

I'd say the the tweeters up front would be better than nothing.

Just wondering but have you looking into shallow mount 3.5"s?

I once had a very shallow speaker location and stumbled upon some kenwood that were ridiculously shallow, IIRC not much more than an inch. They sounded awesome as well.

    Here's a Nice pair

    Good luck.

Got this up and going for the most part. Gotta fab up the front bracket for tweeters, but it sounds good, not great, but good.

Man I thought I had something back in the early 90's on a budget with 6x9's and 3.5's. It sounded good for what I had in it, but todays factory set ups rock compared to old school! LOL.

No need for a all out system in this car as the exhaust is music to my ears, but tunes are nice on the long (100mile) car show hauls!

FWIW, the only set of 3.5's I could get in the dash of this would maybe be Kenwoods and that would be cutting it close as the ac duct hugs the factory 4x10.
Also, the tweets sound better w/o the cross over as they allow for more voice. They hammer the highs with them installed.

It's really tough to get good sound without making some sacrifices. It can be done to look very classy if you really want to get custom with it. I personally hate working on older vehicles because everybody "wants to keep it original". I would rather be unique than original. Here is an old Malibu that I did a few years back.
