Gunsmithing cerakote

Re: cerakote

I was looking at that exact stuff last night. I don't believe it's required for THAT type.

Let me know if you find out otherwise, I'm going to order some soon as well.

Re: cerakote

No hardener!

Just shot my first rifle build with Cerakote Air Dry two weeks ago.

Although the Training Manual that they send with it seems to only pertain to the baking type it still helps. I did exactly what it says step for step with the exception of the gas out and oven cure of course, and it seemed to come out fine!

From the Training manual Pg. 8 (Coating Preparation):

"Prepare the Cerakote for application. Begin by shaking the bottle until the coating is completely mixed, the shake some more for good measure."

Then strain into your favorite HVLP or airbrush and go to town. I
also watched the video on youtube which said use a .8 tip and 22 to 25 psi in the HVLP.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: cerakote

It's doing very well! They say you can package and ship it after one hour but I let it set over night.

I fought the urge to shoot it for five days which is what they say is the full cure time. So far it's had Bore tech carbon cleaner, Bore tech copper cleaner, Butches, and CR10 on it and no effects yet.

Re: cerakote

Cerakote C-Series does not require hardener.

Its principal application is high-temp and items which cant be baked. Its not as durable as H-Series and you cant adjust the sheen as you can with H-Series, but its still a lot better than its would be competitors.

There is some info on C-Series differneces in the new Applicator Training Manual.

If you dont have it let me know and I can email it to you.

Re: cerakote

Does anyone know if there is a color difference between the H-series Flat Dark Earth and the Air dry Flat Dark Earth? I know that the oven cure can have the sheen adjusted and the air dry cannot but will that make the color of the air dry look different?

Re: cerakote

The Sheen of a finish can most definitely affect the color. It also has a lot to do with its bake time. But, being that your not baking the air dry (duh!) it could come out slightly different. That would probably be best answered my someone that works for Cerakote. I have never used the air dry series of paint.
