If you are careful you can but if your experience with Cerakote is limited you can run into problems with fit.

Re: Cerakoting Tac 30 bolt

One good option would be to have your bolt ionbonded and do the rest in cerakote. The ionbond is a great coating for moving parts and will not interfere with any tolerances issues.

Re: Cerakoting Tac 30 bolt

the tac actions have a nice hard iron nitride finish. i'd leave that alone as long as you can handle the black bolt. i have blasted and coated the inside and out of a stiller tac action with norell's moly-resin but left the bolt body alone. it worked fine and is how i'd do it again if the receiver wasn't going to stay black. i personally like black metal on rifles so i typically leave a stiller action alone and coat the barrel with flat black moly-resin.

i have not tried it personally so i can't say for sure but i'd be curious how well any spray on finish adheres to the stiller bolt body.

Re: Cerakoting Tac 30 bolt

If it is completely stripped of all old finish and the cerakote is not applied to heavy it will probably work. I know my TAC 30 is pretty tight and will chatter when cycling the bolt if it gets to dry.

Yes this is done all the time and actually looks good.
