I am ready to start in on a new lot of RE15. How far do you guys back off from the current load when switching from one lot to the next? I'm presently running 45.4 gr. of RE15 under a SMK 175 in prepped BHM (Win) brass and a Fed GM210M. It averages 2678 fps out of 26" 10FP. I use a CED M2 chrono.

Re: Changing Lots of Powder

I would back down 10%, at least for the first couple shots. My last lots of H4831 varied substantially, and if I would have loaded with the new lot at the same charge, it would have been very, very bad.

What do you have to lose besides a little time, a few components, and a little barrel life. Beats a blown up rig and face, or worse...

Re: Changing Lots of Powder

I'd back down to under book max and compare those to the velocities I recorded when I worked up my load. Probably 5 rounds or so for a couple of different weights. If things were pretty close I'd go with my old weight, if the change seems to drastic I'd work up the load again. Worse that happens is you make an extra trip to the range.
