First, the falcon menace 4-14:

Second,A nikon monarch 4-16:

And last, A leupold VX-I 4-12x40mm Rifle Scope:

Any opinions on any of these scopes or recomendations of other scopes with similar powers for around $400?

Re: Choosing a scope for my 700

Just me,

I would remove the xv1 from the list; I wouldn't pay that much.
The monarch is a very decent scope and can be had for a fair price.
I have no experience with the falcon menace-
Nikon's Buck master is also a very good deal in that neighborhood

If you can muster up another $1/200 I feel you would be stepping into a really great variety. I don't mean to deter you if you're set on that range but I believe around $5/600 you will see noteworthy improvements in what your looking at in terms of glass clarity, durability, warrantee etc... from Bushnell, Burris, Leupold's vxr/vx3, Zeiss to name a few.

If its a temporary scope to hold over for a future purchase, the monarch or buckmaster can be a good buy. I would also consider bushnell in that range as well, maybe even one of the older style elite models.

If its a keeper, I would really consider saving just a touch more. It will take you to a different league in my opinion.

Good luck with your search-
