Considering today's political environment, would you advertise your "skills?"

From the outside looking in

2 weeks after you show them how to shoot they’ll forget about you

they won’t forget the guy who asked them if they’d fire on civilians...

I can’t remember what my friend in high school was good at but I can remember some dumb shit he said.

ymmv

I would say keep your skills close to your vest. That being said it is liberating to have shitty gear and no notable skills.

While I was RO'ing at my club, I had a National Guard member stop in to shoot his Ar. We asked him the same question about opening fire if instructed, since his buddies were at the Capital. He said "If instructed.... Yes, without a doubt". I was blown away by the response. It's been a while since I've had my eyes opened like this!

You mean like expertly shooting hookers with a tranq dart and dragging them into the van?
No.
Probably not.

Most kids today spend more time playing video games than interacting with people. Many are raised by women. Given a chance to experience real fellowship and enjoy manly things and learn what it means to be a man will open a deep thirst in them for more. Never pass up a chance to chat with a young man. Invite them back out. Provide that thing they are missing. They will surprise you if you do your part.

And shut up about shooting civilians. It’s crackpot stuff.

Half the Gaurd I talked to in DC have no ROE and are fed shit. Their leadership sucks. Be a leader they can trust

The myth of the Lone Wolf sheep dog is a myth. I don't care how many matches you've shot, 3 gun or PRS, a SWAT Team or NG Infantry squad is going to ruin your day.

Take care of your family, get to know your neighbors, become friendly with them, and be a solid human being. Stock up on food, stay proficient at protecting your family's security and financial stability, help those that need a strong back, and stop fantasizing about Red Dawn scenarios. You'll be happier and make more of a difference in the world.

You don’t negotiate with terrorists/commies

No matter what you do, they will still hate you and try to destroy you, censoring yourself or playing these games just makes you seem weak.

Throw them the bird, laugh a little, and carry on. I don’t walk on eggshells for commies

As for your situation, and say yeah I hit those, maybe fire off a round or two and show them, if they asked how I’d probably say something along the lines of “this is what one can do when one exercises their constitutional rights since childhood”

Or if you really want to have a laugh, tell them you give them some tips if they can name off the first 10 amendments to the constitution and correlate them to modern life.
Now you are asking alot. You be lucky if they knew how many rights were on the Bill of Rights.

Additionally, if they could name 4 it would be a miracle.

With a cock the size of mine it’s really hard to fly under the radar

I think most wouldn't, but I'm sure there are some who are brain-dead that would. They would be violating the first and foremost part of their oath.

I always found the idea of “fighting for freedom” or “fighting for the country” perplexing when one doesn’t know the nations 10 basic rights, which is really all the country is.

Be better to just be honest and say you’re fighting because it’s the best pay and bennies your lack of skills will afford you. Nothing wrong with it, just I can respect if if folks can leave the marketing sales pitch at home.

The surviving families of the Waco incident don't agree with you.

That was the ATF and the FBI, and a small group of idiots in those Agencies, not ARNG Infantry.

Had it been well trained troops, well led, the compound would have fallen in about thirty seconds.

We are fortunate that the left always telegraphs its moves and then overreaches. My guess is we are all being spied on now and there will be some big Palmer Raid that will backfire.

It was the state, a state approved action that went all the way to the Whitehouse.

Who cares what color outfit the perpetrators wore?

Instead of creating a community around you and a network of people who are trained with like skills that you may eventually trust as an ally you thought it better to play dumb? Your son just brought a bunch of people that you don't know to your property where you have steel to 850 yards. Who has that on their property if they don't shoot it? oh someone who has friends that do. If these work buddies of your son are ever compromised you think they won't mention you because you "can't" shoot that far? They'll just say you know people that do and you'll be targeted for information on your "friends." Then you post the story in an online forum that you know will be top 5 of those that get raided for member info if SHTF in a true anti-gun way. I'm not quite sure you are as paranoid as you think you are.

Here's what you need to know: 1. Your son already told those work buddies of his that you can shoot. 2. They likely already know what type and the number of rifles you have. 3. They know where you live. 4. They think you're connected to a larger group of even better shooters. 5. They've already posted pics of their range day on every social media platform they have. 6. They've already told friends of theirs that aren't your son that they have a place to shoot that goes out to 900 yards and shared their knowledge of bullets 2, 3, and 4 with them.

Here's what you can do now if you're that worried about it: 1. Move. 2. Have them over to shoot regularly. Grill up some steaks and talk to them. Find out where their minds are for current events and possible future events. Teach them to shoot to 900. Make them part of the firearms community in a deeper way. That way they're less likely to betray you should that time come. 3. Do nothing and hope what you did was right and what I'm saying is wrong.

You need a community around you. The more people we bring into the fold, the less people we have to worry about. The gun community's #1 enemy is ignorance because that breeds fear and fear breeds anti-gun actions. We can't eliminate ignorance without educating others. Hiding our skills to those who inquire is the wrong approach.
How about secret hand signs and handshakes, like the Freemasons? Then you'd have your answer if the stranger is a trusted ally or potential enemy.

It's a smart-ass, flippant response now but not to the powerful groups that have stayed powerful for centuries and run the world.

See pic of Mike Pence shaking hands and receiving his coin from the masked man after certifying the fraudulent election.

An interesting scenario at my place today. My son came out with a group of his workplace buddies to do some shooting. They were mostly current and former National Guard members. They all had various configurations of 5.56 guns. In my opinion, their skills were nominal at best. About 300 yards was all most could handle consistently. There was one of them that could hit a few times out to 500. I have shootable range out to 900 with steel hung out to 850. They started asking me if I shot those distant targets, and what it would take for them to shoot that far. Before I opened my mouth, I caught myself. I simply played dumb by replying that I have friends that come out and shoot that stuff, and I really didn't know the details.

The interesting part was when I began asking them questions like: "If you were commanded to open fire on US citizens who were defending their own constitutional rights, what would you do?" A few of them had to think about it. I was a bit surprised at this.

Considering today's political and social climate, would you advertise any particular "skills" you might have to people you really didn't know? In my paranoid mind, I sometimes think that when the SHTF, those are the people they would come after first.
Some things never change and our military leaders don't offer the correct training.

Who’s version of “correct”?

I’d say they are very correctly trained, same as police, they are trained only as far as to obey and to be technically proficient enough to complete their assigned tasks, more akin to a trained attack dog, than some type of warrior monk, or other romantic hero following a honorable code.

Well, in their defense you aren’t giving us a lot to go on. They suck at shooting what size target at 300yds, from offhand, prone... and with what? Irons, RDS, scoped rifles? You said ARs so we at least know that much. And to be honest, lots of guardsmen probably haven’t touched a rifle really since initially coming on. But yeah I hear you. Also, to be honest, if I didn’t really know you and you just pop me the question on whether or not s someone going to follow orders and just start taking people out then it’s not surprising they took a moment to answer you. That would be a pretty shocking question for most anybody, especially from someone that is unknown. I don’t see anything unreasonable in this situation and probably would have taught them to shoot. However, you do bring up an interesting point I’ve wondered about in the past and that is whether or not we should be passing on the torch. To those vetted, sure. But I kind of feel almost as if there needs to be a vetting process even tho, it’s not something anyone couldn’t really learn on their own should they really want to put in the time and effort.

Skills? Shit around here? Bo and Luke are more gooder at shooten shit than most of the military. And really, how far do you think you will be needing to shoot in a shit show?
95% plus of the population is in an urban environment. 1K yards and mil vs moa are not going to be a skill set needed to survive.

Exactly! I was going to say the same thing but was trying to be um, more gentle-like. 🤣 You know since the pit has become more PC and all, have to be careful round here.

I am still confused about the post.

- brought them out to my place / multiple steel targets out to 850
- asked provocative questions
- should I not talk about shooting skillz?

I'd say it was all on the table without having to say a thing.

Kinda like bumper stickers....thanks for letting me know your thoughts in advance.

Besides, most drones fly higher than 1k meters.

THIS IS AWESOME....continue please. I tell EVERYONE how cool I am! Oh hey you guys...I'm awesome

If you've got steel to 850 yards then anyone you'd need to worry about can see that you shoot LR from satellite pictures. Not sure why you'd worry about what a few rando's think or know.

Better to spread knowledge than hide in a shadow.

As James Yeager (like him or hate him, doesn't mean he's wrong) says: If you think it's time to bury guns, it's time to dig them up.

After all, if you're afraid to even talk... well.. not likely to show up for a fight.

I have no skills. I basically wander around like an ewok in the forrest.

Even when I am funny its unintentional and explaining it to me would be counter productive.

I guess you subscribe to the "I was only following orders." train of thought and are one of the 85% who would open fire on citizens.

Me no, I think many rightfully found their place at the business end of a three strand rope with that crap.

I just get the nature of folks, most do follow that

If they are of the "do what the government commands you.." mindset, I don't need to be improving their skills. As far as showing up for a fight, I don't need to be ambushed by a bunch of brain-dead robot communists in the middle of the night. I can accomplish a lot more if I'm the one "showing up."

I have mad cunnilingus skills, and I don't care who knows! Love me some beef taco! Lol

Maybe it depends on who these “citizens” are.

Firing upon rioting, looting, murderous, gangbangers during times of unprecedented unrest, vs. firing upon law abiding patriots due to a left driven witch-hunt.

People put too much of their lives out there. Everywhere. Online, blabbing in person. I find it's always best to listen and let other's blab.
Every one knows you bang em from 8 to 80, crippled blind or crazy!

The only skills I advertise are my BBQ skills, everything else is my business. I often find those who have the most to say have nothing worth listening to. Especially if you haven’t asked them anything. We all know those guys.
I don't know that guy, so it must be me.

Man, I hadn't heard that the gov jobs were so understaffed that they were hiring incompetent morons like this. If you are going to spy on your own citizens, at least be competent.
