Credit card fraud in the industry

I own Misery Custom Rifles and I use my business credit card almost daily purchasing gun parts and what not. For years now my business card gets fraud charges and I have to go through the whole process of canceling, waiting on a new card to show up, then updating my card information for all my accounts. It happened again last night and now this is my 6th business card this year. My personal card as well as my wife's card don't ever have this problem. It makes me believe one of my vendors somehow has unsecure payment allowing my information to get out. I'm trying to narrow down where it can be coming from but I use too many vendors to even know where to begin. Has anyone had issues with any vendors in the firearms industry as far as their cards getting frauded? If you don't want to mention names publicly feel free to send me a PM. Thanks, Zack Tannen

I have had it happen more than I'd like on personal cards
The Card Companies have always been good about refunding fraudulent charges and issuing new cards
Those who figure ways to steal that information are getting better at it.
Pain in the ass that goes with using credit cards IMHO

We have had more than one company card at my work have fraud charges within 30 minutes of activating a new card. The fraud department at the bank said there are some out there than have computers run numbers and make small charges like a few pennies to see if they are good numbers. Once they have some, they runt he card until it shuts off for fraud. This is dated info we were told maybe 10 years ago.

There are card readers out there on gas pumps, servers at restaurants scan cards (we had that happen on a new card first used at one restaurant in downtown Houston), card readers at stores, etc. I have seen plenty of body cam videos of these scammers getting busted with card readers made to go over the scanners at grocery stores and other places. It seems more prevalent in some states. A majority of the people I have seen busted were Romanian.

I also suspect numbers get recycled because the first 8 are essentially bank numbers, so you are left with 8 numbers to created new CC numbers for. It's hard to say these days. I personally have not had any issues with my bank card, but my personal debit card I have had issues here and there.

Can’t speak for a business card, but we have a personal card compromised about every 18 months. The only one I’m sure of was a gas/convenience store. The wife fired several wait staff over the years for bogus charges on customers cards.

Get more than one credit card
Or get a card that can use virtual numbers

Start blocking off who of your vendors gets which card, then narrowing it down.
Then find the culprit and nail them and out them publicly that way they fix their stupid system.

I like using virtual cards where possible. I've been fortunate that my Amex hasn't been compromised....yet. It is a huge pain in the butt when it happens though, I feel your pain.

Amex is great to deal with. I've only seen fraud on mine a couple of times but, on one occasion, the thieves ran up about $80,000 in charges in a few days before it was spotted. Amex cleared it up without question or any unnecessary hassle.

The only time a card should leave an RFID secure wallet is when swiped, but that only prevents those physically near you from getting card info.

I’ve had the same issue with my business card getting hit multiple times too, but never my personal. Makes me think certain vendors’ systems just aren’t locked down. I started running bigger purchases through PayPal when possible and it’s cut down on the headaches a lot.

I've had a Capital One card for years. They are awesome at catching and stopping fraud. Zero issues over the last seven years including international travel.

The last real problem was a waiter at Red Robin near Denver in 2018. I paid for my meal and he bought himself a new $3000 Apple computer and a business class ticket to his rubble strewn home in Kazakhstan. They call within minutes. I took the time to go back and talk to the manager.

One of my buddies had instant fraud every time he purchased a rifle stock from one company.

I have gone in waves off and on with fraud problems on various cards. This is one of the reasons I have 4 cards. It takes forever it feels to get a replacement card. I can have 3 cards stolen a year or go 3 years without any cards stolen, its random, currently in a no cards stolen in years pattern

The worst story I have is my wife had a store card, it was backed by Synchrony Bank (they suck donkey dicks), was stolen 3 times and then Synchrony accused her of fraud.

-card was stolen, reported, all paperwork filled out to cover it
-new card arrived, was activated, we never used it, stolen again a week later all paperwork filled out to cover it
-new card arrived, we did NOT activate it, I told my wife to sit on it as we didn't need to use it

that card was stolen a week later and we never activated it

this is where Synchrony told us that we were the fraudsters and told us we have to pay it
fuck them, I escalated and we won I then cancelled all our Synchrony cards

That's been my experience with AMEX too.

But, nowhere close to that magnitude of fraud, thank God.
