Custom remmy 308 project Range Report....WOW

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

Here are some pics at the range along with pics from the property and deer stand..

The target was the first 6 shots during the break in process. I think this is a prommising look.

Then the pictures of the deer stand. This is a buddy of mine that built this out of some large manhole sleves. And a few pics out of the stand.

I will be posting a few more pics once the barrel is completly broken in and a sweet load developed.
What a fun build. Cant wait to start another.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

I thought you all would like it. That is why I put it on here. I may have to start a seperate thread for this.

When you own your own company that makes hundreda of thousands a year.
I will have to get the pics from him as this thing went up.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

The break is a vance break. I believe brownells sells them. My smith buys them oversized and then turns them down.

And to scatsob, ya this is one hell of a place this buddy of mine has. 700 acres. next year we are going to build a range with 3 benches and we will have ranges of 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400.

What is your thoughts on this? </div></div>

As long as the stock isn't putting unwanted stress anywhere on the stock in most cases bedding anywhere else other then the front receiver ring and tang (under the action screw) is pure cosmetic to fill any gaps between the stock and action.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

You're never going to be completely happy with that "hide" until you mount a Quad .50 in it (LOL). Anyhow, the rifle's looking SWEET! What is the OAL of the barrel with the brake when it's all said and done? It looks noticeably shorter, but maybe it's just me.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

I had the barrel taken down to 27" and with the break on it is 29". Origionaly it was 30" without and with it was 32". With all the spacers on the butt stock and the break on, it would not fit inside the case I had. It is a cheep cabelas case, but it was 51" inside.

The way it is now I have an inch on both ends.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

Well I guess with a good barrel like the Kreiger I put on, you dont really need to do a break in. At least that is what I hear.\

Well I did one any way.

So after 1/2 the day at the range today, here is a few groups it shot today. The rifle is a much better shooter than I am. I will work on that. LOL

Here is the end results.

The groups here are all 5 shot groups at 100 yards. The first group is a .386 the second is a .196 the third is a .416 and last is a .327, This was the firs part of my load development. All with 150gr sierra match spitzers.

I am real happy so far with the outcome of the rifle. I just cannot wait to get the NF put on this beast.

After the hollidays I will be getting back to this load work up.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

Man I love that break. Wonder what it would cost to have one put on my rifle.
...and that deer stand has got to be the most badass I've seen.
I cannot friggin wait till we have a good chunk of land.

My smith charges 30.00 for the break and 60.00 to take the barrel off and turn the muzzle. He suggested to true the receiver and bolt while the barrel was off.

Re: My custom remmy 308 project

Thanks jdgray. I think with a little practice, this thing is going to be a stupid sick shooting machine. I just cant wait to get it out to 400 and 600 yards after Thanksgiving and our second deer season.

The one thing I did notice on Sunday shooting. That after it had 5-8 shots down the tube, and with it being so cold, I had a mirage that SUCKED. I think the 1st and 2nd pictures of the groups I posted would of been better. But with the mirage screwed them up.

So, do I get mirage barrel shade?
