Or something else? I want to build an ACCURATE .22 trainer to compliment the 5R I just bought. Im a complete newbie when it comes to .22's but that wont stop me from learning and trying to build a nice and most importantly accurate .22 bolt action, Thanks!

With the Ruger you will definately have to "build it", as with almost all Rugers there is nothing accurate about them. CZs are nice and accurate and so are the savage.

You have more options as far as changing barrels go w/ the 77/22. The CZ doesn't have the same option, but is definitely an accurate rifle. I put a Shilen .920 20 in. barrel on my 77/22. Plus a Volquartsen sear and a new stock. Here's a pic.

Here's how it shoots.

jugo,
You didn't mention price range. Are you gonna modify your 5r? McMillan stock? If so, you have an option you didn't mention. A sako quad can be setup in a McMillan stock any A series stock will work. depends on what the price range is and what you wanna do with it.
As far as ruger and cz.. parts are out there for the ruger most work can be done yourself. Including swapping from 22lr/22mag and 17mach/17hmr. All with the same rifle.
The CZ i think is better out of the box for accuracy. It is not as mod able though.

Just my .02
Hope it helps a little

Well I'm going to have my 5R up and running by the end of the week. I'm going to texture and paint the hs stock it comes with while I save up and buy and wait for a mcmillan stock same goes for the scope I bought a swfa ss to hold me over until I get my viper pst. As far as a budget goes I want to keep it at or under $1,000 for a complete accurate .22 rifle that I can shoot tac matches with.

Re: CZ 452 Varment or Ruger M77-22?

I am very loyal to the CZ product line due to bang to buck factor. I believe a CZ with a good scope would be a great combo. I am able to hit varmints with both of my iron sight CZ's at 125 yards. I plan to scope one of them,so i am sure it will only get better.

A CZ sub 500.00 and good scope sub 400.00 would be very accurate.

my 2 cents

Re: CZ 452 Varment or Ruger M77-22?

I have a 452 American and a 77/22. I just went to fondle them to refresh my memory. I'm generally not one who's slow to take a decision but I can't say I prefer one over the other. And they both shoot about equally well. The bad news is that probably doesn't help you with your decision. The good news is that there is no bad choice.

I gave ~$400 for the CZ and ~$580 for the Ruger.

ruger, way more after market parts.

my vbz shoots great. trigger sucks, but oh well.

if you buy the ruger and want a prone richards stock let me know.

hard to beat the 10/22 also.

Re: CZ 452 Varment or Ruger M77-22?

What are the trigger options with the Ruger? I'm only familiar with the Brooks kit for the CZ. A huge improvement but far from optimal.

Last I checked; CMP still has bare 40xRF's barreled rcvrs and PTG is taking orders for bolts. Still have not seen one at the door and no idea on the wait. http://www.pacifictoolandgauge.com/
A possibility to put one in a 5R HSP take-off stock. I won't high-horse on .22rf utility as a CF "trainers" go.

Mag changes, and capacity, and off-hand may apply? What are the other guys in that venue running?

Well after much research I have decided to go sako quad and mcmillan A5 stock and have a complete copy of my .308

I'll eventually put a lilja barrel on it.

Savage Mark II line has various options - I have $600 in the optics and $200 in the rifle and I can shoot necco wafers at 100 yards all day.

Re: CZ 452 Varment or Ruger M77-22?

Thats a great choice! like Jr. V said though, they are very hard to find. if you end up wanting something sooner, I'd go with the CZ or the Savage Mark II. i think you would have to invest more money into the 77/22 to get it to the point of the other two out of the box (if you get a $15 trigger kit for the CZ and self install). i have a CZ 452 and am very pleased with it.

looking at it from a training point of view, maybe the 452 is your best bet as the trigger is more similar in feel to your 5R than the accutrigger, though both are great. as you seem to have come to yourself, i would try to match your 22 trainer to your 5R as much as possible, i.e. scope features, stock feel, trigger pull, etc.
