Friend picked up a very nice Sako Deluxe 75 in 30-06 for his son and is looking at a Swarovski 3x10x42, z3 and I'd appreciate some other recommendations around that mag. Range, a little bigger is fine. 25 to 300 yrs. Range, U.P. of Michigan deer hunting for now but maybe down the road Muleys out west. $500-600 price range, basic reticle, plexi, bdc would be ok. Thanks lots.

I have a Sako 75 Finnlight in 06 which is very similar. My uses are/were just like yours to include Elk/Moose. What bases and rings does he have? I have the Optilocks. They are heavy, but solid. They force me to use a scope with a long tube for mounting. There isn't much flexibility for scope adjustments in the rings. I had a Nightforce SHV 3-10x42 and felt it was perfect. A little out of the price range, but a good used one should fit the bill. I personally rattled a Z3 apart on another rifle and chose to get something more durable.

Make sure he considers mounting space on the tube and space between rings. If he has a rail and rings, then this is a moot point.

I was just about to list mine for sale. Tough times are forcing me to downsize the inventory. Now you got me thinking i should keep it for the versatility.

Hope this helps.
