Delayed primer ignition

Whet out shooting my cheytac today and experienced a strange phenomenon. About 1 in 10 shots had a delayed ignition. Trigger would click...1-1.5 seconds...then ignition would commence. It is not a light primer strike as the dent in the primer is substantial. None of the primers are pierced. Has anyone experienced this that can shed some light on this? I have used this box of primers with other cartridges with no problems. Primers are CCI 0015 LR Magnum primers. Thanks

Re: Delayed primer ignition

I encountered the same with a 408CT. Was trying some very slow powder I use in 50 BMG loads. I changed powder, but used same lot of primers 'Federal Mag' and no more problems. About 1 in 8 was my ratio of hang fires.

What kind of powder and how much you using? Depending on powder it may take a compressed load or real close to keep the powder up against the primer.

Re: Delayed primer ignition

I had hang fires using US 869 in both the 375/408 and 338/408. It only seemed to be a problem with light loads. If your problem persists drop back to 50 BMG with near capacity loads, (approach carefully) In my experience the BMG is more consistant; however, the 869 will give you about 100 fps more than the BMG.
