I hate people that just buy a vest for their dog and try to act like it’s a trained service dog...
Which seems to be a large portion of them.I hate people that just buy a vest for their dog and try to act like it’s a trained service dog...
Dammit!
Looks like my beloved pet gerbil — Captain Felcher — is gonna have to be checked from now on.
On a bright note, that means my wife can't travel with me...
It doesn’t work that way but I get your point. After alcohol, ESAN’s are the main reason for issues with people in flights.I hate people that just buy a vest for their dog and try to act like it’s a trained service dog...l have seen countless therapy dogs barking at people, trying to bite people, not listening to instructions...its ridiculous BTW I’m a dog lover

But in order for it to be an emotional support animal you need a note from a psychiatrist. They are not service animals which do not require a note from a psychiatrist only proof that they are actually certified service animals. The problem is the psychiatrist who just writes a note and collects a fee because they can. The people who do it are just taking advantage of a service offered. Some people legitimately need them. I can’t tell you how many medical emergencies I’ve had to divert for because some nervous flier thought mixing ambien and 5 vodka tonics was a good way to help anxiety while flying. I’d rather have the yappy chihuahua. No, it doesn't work that way, but he's right. People do that shit. They really do. States have different rules, but the federal government is clear that emotional support animals are NOT service animals, and are not protected under ADA.
Velcro sneakersHow is Pelosi and Harris going to get around now?
Yup. My mom has been an AA flight attendant for 23 years or so. She says at least 90% of people with emotional support pets are completely unreasonable. It doesn’t work that way but I get your point. After alcohol, ESAN’s are the main reason for issues with people in flights.
Emotional support animals seem to be a pretty accurate indicator of deep narcissism.Yup. My mom has been an AA flight attendant for 23 years or so. She says at least 90% of people with emotional support pets are completely unreasonable.
You know we say stuff like this and lump people into groups (I’m guilty of it). I once had an 8 year old girl on a flight with her ESAN, it was a black lab and it was missing a big patch of fur. I’ll never forget this. I remember the gate agent having a heated discussion with the girls mother (who turned out to be her aunt) over the validity of the paperwork. You see we see so many scammers it’s hard to not see them all as scammers. Anyway, I normally don’t get involved but the little girl was in tears clutching on to this dog so I intervened at my own peril and spoke to the woman. It turns out just a few weeks prior, this little girl lost her whole family in a house fire. Mom, dad, and 2 brothers. She survived because as it happened this dog was sleeping with her that night and helped her get out of the house. The missing fur was a burn scar the dog endured helping this little girl. The aunt explained that since that moment the dog has not left her and she has not left the dog. I don’t know about you but I am perfectly ok with that dog being on my flight. Note or no note.Emotional support animals seem to be a pretty accurate indicator of deep narcissism.
You misspelled children.Yup. My mom has been an AA flight attendant for 23 years or so. She says at least 90% of people with emotional support pets are completely unreasonable.

Shit ain’t always black and white. It’s not always the Paris Hilton’s with their tea cup chihuahua just trying to look cute.
I agree. I've only had one problem in 15 years with an animal on a flight. That was a small dog that the owner couldn't/wouldn't control and refused to stay in the seat, and growled at the FA's and passengers. I've had MANY issues with passengers that should have been muzzled or put in cargo. It's not the animals that are the problem, just the basketcase humans that can't function in public. But in order for it to be an emotional support animal you need a note from a psychiatrist. There is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad dog owner.I agree. I've only had one problem in 15 years with an animal on a flight. The people who game it to bring their pet on vacation are a problem. But looking at everyone through the same lens is what leads us to things like black people rioting in the streets because they feel (right or not) they get treated like criminals at every interaction. Sometimes you gotta give people the benefit of the doubt and try to squash that bias. I am so guilty of this. I mean I’ll be honest, I hate everyone that gets in the plane, I feel like they are all entitled fucks. I have to remind myself to check myself. It’s hard because I’m fed up as fuck with humanity. It’s so much easier to just look through that lens of distrust. I’m obviously not just talking about ESAN anymore.Look, it's a good story. But I'm not going to recant anything that I said over it. Sure, if that one in a billion situation occurred, you'd want the airline to do what's right. (I'd fight to the death to let a little girl bring her pet, in that case) But we all know that ain't how it typically goes. And that's a one time deal. When that girl is 30, one can only hope that she's received proper counseling, and is no longer hauling the family pet around in coach class. Everyone else can learn to fly like civilized people. Or else I'd like some consideration from the airline. Especially considering I earn status every year on retail tickets, out of my own pocket. We're all flying together, with no say of who one another are. So let's get it down to the least common denominator, so that we can get along as best as possible. Leaving your fucking animal at home, is a great start.

My mom provides exhibit A. To pre-empt some of you who might think my mother "might be the problem"... she's been the American Airlines Flight Attendant of the year a half dozen times, is a trainer for the company, and was inducted into the company hall of fame which is kinda of a big deal. That said:The rule is abused to the max by assholes. A true ESA that is performing that service for its owner can sit in my lap during the flight! But like most things assholes take advantage.

I mean that’s one point in the whole discussion. But I also believe that the little girl who wants to go to Disney world deserves to also but she terrified of leaving the one thing in her life she has left. Sure they can drive, but it’s of no consequence to me to have them on board. There are a lot of failures in the ESAN system. Outright prohibition may be necessary as a first step in resetting the process. Iloilo bet good money they will be allowed agin at some point soon. What I absolutely have nobtolerance for is animals in the cargo. Fortunately my airline prohibits it.We don't live in the kind of society that is conducive to giving deferrence to good judgment. People are fucking idiots. Most of them. You see it plainly, if you're paying attention - and assuming that you aren't one, yourself. I share your pessimism towards humanity. And I'd love to shave about half of the world's population. But until/unless that happens, keeping the EASN at home, is an absolute no-brainer. Because if we all get on the plane without pets, then nobody's pet can be a problem. Right?
I wish that were true. Fucking mini horses were in the guidelines at one pointLucky for us all, there are very strict federal guidelines on what constitutes a service animal. And emotional support animals are NOT considered service animals (it's almost, but not quite, entirely limited to dogs). So that fear is a bit unfounded. At least for now. With a full Democrat control of the government, rules be changin' shortly, no doubt.

Can I still have my emotional support 300blk sbr though?
There are actually a couple of fair reasons for using mini-horses. They're sturdier as a physical support, they're stronger than dogs if they need to be a bit more forceful, and they're more inclined to carrying or dealing with medical supplies or baggage. And you'd probably notice a random knee-high horse a lot easier in the event of an emergency than you would a dog.I wish that were true. Fucking mini horses were in the guidelines at one point
They are welcome to their wrong opinion. But that doesn’t change anything about the esa letter I had my wife get me from someone she works withNo, because it will cause fanboy arguments about how my 6.5 Grendel is the superior caliber.

What about Emotional Support Skanks?
Asking questions like that is why you'll end up carrying your purse dog onto the plane later.
