Guys, Been thinking about the CheyTac system for a while. Just got my Windrunner M96 in 50 BMG receiver, thinking that I would drop the Cheytac barrel in. Looking through the data, I like the 375 Cheytac bette than the 408 Cheytac. Only problem is I don't think Bill Ritchie has barrels for the 375.

Here is the question, for those who has the 50BMG receiver and bought the 408 cheytac barrel and bolt from Bill Ritchie, how accurate are you getting with this drop in system? thanks for your help.

I am after accuray. Do you think that the drop in barrel and bolt carry sub MOA like a built CT?

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

If you have Lawton install the barrel I don't think you'll see any difference between the two.

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

I think that ultimately a gun like moon_takers new375 is the way to go for "ultimate" accuracy. My 408 seems to have to rezero, etc When swaping barrels. so it makes me wonder what accuracy I'm giving up.

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

I have a m-96 in .338 Lapua and .408 CT.

The .408 is running a 400 Gn. Barnes hybrid brass solid, 125 Gn. R-25 chrono at at 2813 FPS. 4.200 OAL. So far the results are 5 shots one hole at 100 for scope zeroing and load dev, no POI change with barrel on and off.

Bullet seems to be asleep within 50 Yards, will move to 1000 this spring and out to 2000 later.

From what I understand Bill will make you a .375 CT barrel
but you will have to buy the reamers and head space guages, but you can use your .408 bolt.

Have not been out for weeks weather and other things have been eating my shooting time, but when I do get out the damn .308 will have to come first still drifting right at 1000.

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

That's good to know. So far, the 50 BMG I have the zero seems to be fine when I assemble, or disassemble the barrel.

Jim, what kind of accuracy are you getting with your swapped barrel? Sub MOA? are you also going from 408 to 50 BMG?

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

Desert I'm getting sub moa with both 408 (some times in the 1. and 2.s) and 50 but some times I need to rezero and at 5 bucks a shot..........

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

Understand the rezero and $5 a shot issue. Also, in some instances where you don't have the such option to confirm your zero.
Just out of curiosity, what are you running for your 50 BMG load?
I use 224 grains of H50BMG LC 08, 750 AMAX at 5.700". I am able to get just about 1 MOA with that.

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

I will be talking to Bill soon. I have a rifle being produced now. I was going to have the 375 built for it, but ended up with the 338. I want to see how many are interested in the 375 for their windrunners.

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

Desert I actually haven't done allot with my 50 barrel yet. I sold my other 50 to get the conversion and I plan on hitting it this summer with lots of 50 shooting!

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

I've never had to re-zero my windrunner except when I got a new barrel. The batch of new (last year) Amaxs don't shoot for crap for me. If your getting a moa with them your doing fine. Try some 869, My load for the past lot of Amaxs I had was 248gn(869 heated if possible) 5.700oal,cci primed, tzz brass. Work up to this load I know for fact its over pressure in some guns.

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

not at all, not until i get to 250+ with the lot of powder I have and my gun which bill chambered with my match reamer. Now in a ar50 This load is over pressure flat primers and web expanded but they run large chambers.

IIRC, H US 869 lists 250gr. as there max load on the label. Powder works well with the 338LM too. 100grains with a 300SMK to start. It's a ball powder and takes ALOT to fill up the case!!

Re: Dilema with the Cheytac system Need advice.

Be careful with us869 and bmg's theirs good reason that some commercial re-loaders are hovering around 238gn when using 750gn bullets.
