You might have seen my new thread about DMR type rifles. I'm working on getting one and I know how I want to set up the rifle; but I'm completely confused on the glass I should invest in. So what would you recommend? The rifle itself will be .223/5.56.

I want to keep it $1500 or below.
My ideal set up would be-
1-8x.
First focal plane, illuminated, range finding reticle (the leupold CM-R2 is perfect).
1/2 or 1/4 moa knobs (doesn't really matter to me though)
Sufficient eye relief.
And of course good quality glass and durability is a must

Right now I like the leupold mr/t series and is it the USO sn-4? I like that one too. Just saw the GRSC 1-6x and I'm liking that too.

Anyway I would appreciate your comments/opinions if you know of any scope I should look into or if I should change or add/subtract anything to my checklist.

I might just have to go with a 4x acog though because they have tons of sex appeal!

I've been using the x32 version for a year now; it's a great little scope, very rugged, excellent glass, and a good choice of reticles and features.

Re: DMR type Scope

May depend on how much Magnification you want? I have three of the 2.5-10x24's and love them!! I also have some really nice lupy's that are 6.5-20x50's. I would suggest the NF in either the 24 or 32. You can find the 24's if you look but you can buy a new 32 now if time is of the essence!!!

Re: DMR type Scope

Your budget isn't going to accommodate what you're really looking for (1-8x), but there are alternatives. I have a CQBSS on my MK12 at home, magnificent scope, but even at the discount price it is way outside of your budget.

I'd recommend a dual setup of a scope and red dot if you're wanting the full versatility of long range precision along with a CQB capability. For the scope, staying under 10x, you don't need FFP when it isn't going down to a magnification level that you can use at close range. 2.5x isn't low enough in my opinion to use inside 25yds. The 1.8x of the USO is pushing it but at least you have some better reticles available to compensate.

I recommend something in the 2.5-10x category, keep it lightweight, and have a RMR or similar red dot riding the side at an angle. NF, Leupold, SWFA SS 3-9x, etc all would fit the bill. You can also nix the red dot and just train to engage close range aiming down the barrel, but that takes some practice.

Re: DMR type Scope

As others said there's nothing that really fits the bill in your price range. I just put a NF 2.5-10X32 on my MWS and it's a very nice scope, very light and compact too. I think it would be right at home on a DMR type rifle. Just make sure you get the matching NPR2 MOA reticle for your MOA knob choice instead of the mildot.

Re: DMR type Scope

It sounds like you prefer a stadaimetric type reticle such as the Leupold CM-R2 or the Trijicon. Given that and your desire magnification wise you may like the GRSC 1-6x. It is a high end Japanese mad optic with comparable glass to the Vortex Razor HD or Nightforce scopes and has GRSC's stadiametric type ranging reticle. It is also well within your price range at $1025. Its eye relief is the longest of any scope I have tested so if that is very important to you I doubt you will find longer. It is, however, a .1mil adjustment scope so if you are set on MOA it will not do. It is also back ordered so it would be a wait to obtain one. here is the link

Re: DMR type Scope

I am running a 3.5x10x40mm Illm. TMR MK4 Leupold with M5 turrets so its a mil/mil scope and SECOND focal plane. I could'nt be more than happy with my setup. The rifle is a POF P308 16.5" and I feel it is about as perfect SHTF rifle one could ask for.
