Im looking for 223 bulk loads and a powder that will pour well on my RCBS uniflow thrower that I dont have to trickle every case.

Ive read good and bad about IMR 4895 and how it throws.

How does the IMR4895 throw? I found some from a guy for eh price and I want it but if it doesn't throw well I cant use it.

I have tons of varget at home but dont want to use my good 175smk powder on plinking 223 and it throws like sh** and again Im looking to throw about 1k this weekend so I dont want to trickle every other case. I want to be able to throw it and have decent results and feel comfortable weighing out every 5th case.

Thanks.

Crap!

Thanks for the input guys. Even tho it doesn't throw all that well should I jump on it still? $205 shipped for a 8lber.

Or wait for a full ball powder to come in stock?

For Bulk 233 with 55 Grain bullets I would try to get WC-844,H-335 or TAC .They are all ball Powders and flow very well in all powder measures.IMR 4895 will work if thats all you can get.But it may bridge once in a while.Depending on your measure and throwing style you should be +/- .2 or .3 Grains of powder. The ball powers should be +/- .01 Grains.IMR 4895 is a great powder and usually shoots very well. The ball powder shoot well too.But are not as Temp Stable. If you are shooting in cold weather with Ball Powder use a Mag Primer.

Yea I want to wait for better powders but I'm kinda in a rush to try and get my loads up by the 5th for a shooting trip.

But I have some XM193 left over still but I'd rather use up my reloads for just shooting dirt and bump firing like we will be this trip.

You can use the IMR 4895 .It will work fine.It also Works well in 308 as well.Sometimes IMR 4895 is an over looked powder. It use to rule long range loads in Plama Loads before Varget came around.I recommend the Ball Powders because they throw better and WC-844 and H-335 is what is usually loaded in Miltary M-193 and 855.

Regards,Mike

IMR 4895 Kernel size is jut slightly larger than Varget, so throws about the same.

OK for bulk .223, but every now and then the powder may "bridge" in the case neck, so a bit of virbration on the press, or a brief pause may give it time to fill the case.

I agree 100% on the bridging of IMR 4895 in reloading 223/556. Because of the spillage I stopped using it for bulk loading 223/556 and use W748 which is a ball powder and meters very well. As previously posted IMR 4895 will meter quite well with my ChargeMaster as well but then you are not bulk loading. I do that for my precision loads for my 308 AIAW and TRG 22 but only can do 60 rounds an hours since you are measuring every charge.

I run IMR4895 thru a Dillon 550b powder measure without issue, varies maybe .2 gr at the absolute most. I don't recall how much trouble it was in my Uniflow before I went Dillon. But I DO remember that some of the most accurate loads I ever shot in my 20" HBAR used surplus IMR4895 and it is one of the most universal rifle powders you can get.
Also recommend Accurate 2230 in addition to the others mentioned above, but I'm sure they're all just as scarce where you are as they are here.....
POWDERVALLEYINC HAS IMR 4895 IN STOCK AT THIS MOMENT, 4:20PM CST WED. I just bought an 8 pounder and with hazmat etc it was 188.00.

Edit to add: I NEVER had to trickle any 223 loads for utility purposes while I was using the Uniflow OR the Dillon. They're both plenty accurate with stick powders in my experience for run of the mill utility loads.
