This past weekend I picked up a 6digit Rem 700 in 30/06. Im thinking of making it into a 6.5x55 or a 6.5x284. Or not even mess with it and just keep the way it is. Any suggestions or another caliber or advice would be great.

.280/.280AI or .284 win would be my choice. although there is nothing wrong with the 6.5 swede as well.

my suggestion is od green manners msc-t stock, new 10 twist 30-06 custom barrel of your contour choice, new william bdl. have your self a badass all around rifle.

Shoot it. If it shoots well, live with it a while until you know exactly what you want it to be. Either the Swede or a 280AI would make into an excellent Mountain Rifle clone. But if it shoots... .

both .280 AI and 6.5x55 Swede are excellent choices. But since I reload, I would build a 6.5-06 and really have a laser beam of a rifle. Just think what advantage you would have in tactical matches!

I was thinking of making it a tac 30-06. I basically bought this rifle to do a build. But I was looking at 6.5-06 also. Brass would be easy to make and being that i already have 3 30-06 and a 338-06AI a 6.5-06 wouldnt be a bad idea
