Don't have a DTA 50 BMG, so can't help you with that. Perhaps, Later can comment on that. With respect to the EDM M96, I am very pleased with it. It's an accurate gun. I like the ability to break it down and fit everything in a small soft case (36"). However, I know that the DTA, by virtue of its design, is not that long either. In terms of recoil, my EDM 50 BMG has less recoil compared to the Barrett M99 (which I used to have one also). I can't speak about customer service for DTA, although I always hear good thing about them, Bill Ritchie of EDM is absolutely first class. Both guns have the ability to interchange calibers 408 CT, or 375 CT. So, I don't have any regret getting the EDM M96. Hope it helps.

I have a friend who has run through everything. He's had Barretts and just about everything else. Now he just runs his EDM with a .50 barrel, a .308 barrel and I believe he is trying to talk Bill Ritchie into making him a .416 barrel. He want's to be able to shoot everything out of his.

I think you will find more EDM or Barrett fans on the forum. Just be sure you know the difference between price and cost.

Price = the amount of $ you are going to spend up front to purchase a 50bmg

Cost = The amount of $ you will drop over a period of time to have exactly what you want in a 50bmg platform.

Buy what you are going to want/need the first time around... Don't buy an AR50 w/a moa/moa scope & sell it 6 months later because you really wanted a Windrunner w/a mill/mill scope. You will prob lose big $ if you go down this road....

just my 2 cents

I thoroughly enjoyed my EDM XM04 but I think the rifle is best suited to larger .50BMG in the M96 receiver. It's a beast of a rifle but accurate and versatile. That said, the HTI is worth considering too, although it's not available yet. It'll probably run you more than the M96 but if it's anything like the SRS, it'll have an edge over the EDM in ergonomics and balance.

If you do go the EDM route, be sure to contact Lloyd at RND (www.rndrifles.com) and get a bipod and shroud assembly. Otherwise you'll be stuck with the EDM bipod mounted too close to the rifle's center of gravity.
