Looking for recommendations on an Elr rifle scope. Needs to have plus or minus 30 mils of useable travel. Trying to spend less than $2000 if possible! This scope will placed on top of a 300 prc, shooting steel at a mile and way beyond. Possible hunting use. Thank you for the input!

You say a mile and way beyond. And then hunting. What is "way" beyond a mile? And what are your expectations? Those two in the same sentence aren't usually a good fit.

I've shot the PRC to 1.5 miles many times now. 2640 yards. And its NOT the tool for the job and not very consistent. The wind at that distance is very hard to judge. Elr and hunting rifle in the same package doesn't really make any sense for me. For a long range PRC you will most likely have repeatable results to 2000 if you can read wind. Few weeks ago I was dialing 21.2 mils for 2k. At 2640 I was over 30 mils. Can't remember exact dope without looking at my notes but I want to say 34.5 or something. Using a Charlie Tarac.

For the few times you may access to a range or spot that even goes that distance, I would suggest just building your rifle how you want to hunt with it and then just play around for distances over a mile or 2k.

I doubt you want a 50moa base on your hunting rig, the erector bottomed out so you can dial 30 mils. I would just setup your rifle with 20 to 30 moa base. Snag a razor or something along those lines in your budget with a tree rericle that you can hold 10 mils of elevation on top of dialing.

Not many scopes have over 30 mils of travel and in your budget. And to make that a useful 30, you will need to play with your setup to get it just right with combo of base and mount.

I reached out to different reps and here's what they said:

From Zeiss:
V4 6.5-20x50 80MOA Adjustment
V6 5-30x50: 62MO Adjustment

From Meopta the Optika6 5-30x56 is closest to the needed range of adjustment at c. 31 MILS. Price is about half what your limit is. Only reticle option is MRAD-RD with MIL adjustments and these are pretty slow to ship.

Leupold look at the Mark 5 series, these will give you 34.9 mils of travel

My Nightforce rep is a totally stand up knowledgeable guy and he replied:
"The only higher end variable power scopes that perfectly fit that description are the Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50 and Leupold Mk5HD 5-25x56.
If he can flex a little price or the elevation minimum, he could consider the NX8 4-32x50 or the Burris XTR 3 5.5-30x56.
If he's willing to consider SFP or MOA options, it would open him up to a lot of quality options like the NXS 5.5-22x56."
You gotta love a totally honest rep

From Steiner,
This is perfect for the P4Xi 4-16x #5221.
If they want something with higher magnification close to their top end price point, then go with the #5122 T5Xi Tactical 5-25x56 - SCR

From Athlon:
Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 features Japanese UHD glass, 32 MILS of elevation and Windage, 34mm Tube, Extremely Durable, or for less $ the Ares ETR will be a good option too

To elaborate further: I’m building a Elr rifle in the 300 prc, that can maximize the extended range that this cartridge offers and pushing its limit. I have access to ranges that allow for mid 2000 yard shots. I am designing this to be a useable rifle. By useable, I am building rifle to be on the upper end of a field able weight. It’s not a primary hunting set up, but in some areas I hunt weight is less of a concern, but
high levels of accuracy and energy at 500 to 1000 is an advantage.

Thank you! There is information here that I have not considered but will look into further!

Your probably gonna need a 40 or more moa rail, or adjustable base or a Charlie Tarac type device for mid 2000 yards.

A razor or Cronus is a good affordable scope for that endeavor.
