F-35, Take-Off, eh!

Re: F-35, Take-Off, eh!

A bit late in the game to try to jump into producing your own advanced modern fighter when you have no really good active military aircraft industry at all.

It would be worth taking a look at the British and their involvement with the Eurofighter (Formerly known as Eurofighter 2000 HA!), they practically bankrupted the british armed forces budget (well that and their new destroyers that cost more than aircraft carriers and have less firepower than a coast guard ship). In the end it wound up being horribly expensive and kind of sucky.

It basically comes down to the USA makes the best weapons systems in a lot of areas including aircraft and the F35 and F22 will most likely rule the sky for a long time to come.

The budget costs will go up hugely despite what is promised, it is the way it always is.

Or if 25 to 30 billion is out of the running, there is always the question of what are you actually going to use them for or against whom? Perhaps a bunch of Missiles from the USA would be cheaper and buy a few pre-loved F16 models just incase you want to go look at something?

"I" didn't say it would be as good, or better. "THEY" did. As to whether it actually would be contentious, I find it interesting. It is touted to have strong points, to this day. What/where are the 'weak' points?

Re: F-35, Take-Off, eh!

hate to say it, but the avro aero was just too big a project. it was along the same lines as the xb70 Valkyrie, just too big, and an outdated technology by the time it came out. I just don't see the need for a gas guzzler like that when the fa18, and f15 can do most anything needed

Re: F-35, Take-Off, eh!

What we need are VTOL F-35's and nuke icebreakers with a pad for a couple of them. That'd be more useful than a high altitude interceptor to catch almost non-existent bombers, if you wanted my amateur opinion.
