I recently purchased a 223 AI here on the Hide from Phylodog.(Thanks). I was in a hurry to shoot it so I picked up a 223 100 ct blister pack of milsurp at Wallyword. I know I shouldn't be running this crap through a nice rifle but I figured I could use the brass to work up loads.
Well after shooting a few shots, I had a ftf. I looked at the case and the ammo had a strange looking shoulder on it. This happened several more times as well. The shoulder almost appeared to already be 223 ackley brass. Ended up being about 20 cases out of the pack had this problem.
I called Federal and explained what happened and they told me they would like to see the ammo and would send a call tag and when they received it they would send out replacement ammo. Well that has been 2 and 1/2 months ago. So I give them a call on Friday and leave a voicemail.
Today I get a call back saying that they tested the ammo and it was running a little on the hot side and that they were sorry and will replace the ammo. I had to explain to the guy that I was having problem with the shoulders being to sharp, and not firing, not problems with the load. I think he finally understood what was up so I asked him when I could expect to have replacement ammo sent. He stated,"Do you know how hard it is to get 223/5.56 ammo right now?" I responded with "You got to be kidding me right. You work for the company that makes the ammo, right?" He finished with "I hope we will get this ammo replacement back to you in 2-3 weeks, that is as good as we can do."
So at least 3 months to replace ammo that they messed up in the first place. Is it me, or is this not crazy?
