Suppressors Feedback on a SA 1911.

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

I had one awhile back. Put 5000 rounds through it with no problems at all. Used Chip McCormick power mags. Fed hydra shocks as well with no problems. For what its worth my buddy has a full size loaded model with 20,000 rounds through it with no problems. I dont think he's even bothered replacing any spring either.

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

I have the loaded model in full size. I love mine, never had a problem in over 2000 rounds. I've shot their champion size, I came away very impressed. If I was looking for a CCW then I really like the champion size. I wouldn't mind having one.

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

I have a GI 45 that ive put about 1K rounds too. I immediately started modding it but then again it was the bottom of the line SA fullsize.

from everything ive read on the 1911forum.com only qualm is holster ware..lol

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

I've got one of the GI Champion versions that I bought used. I liked the way it pointed and it shot really well. The previous owner had installed night sights which were the staked in kind and the front shot lose and gone. I had a local guy cut a novak front sight dovetail and installed one of those into it. After I got caught by the hammer and got bite by it from having the GI type spur and grip safety I had a beavertail and commander hammer put in. That would be near what the specs are on the loaded model.

It's a great gun with and I think it might point just a little bit better than my fullsize. I think it shot better than my Stainless Fullsize 1911a1 Springfield shot in stock form too. I ended up having my fullsize sent in and upgraded to near TRP specs and that is now my go to gun for work. For play when I'm out 4wheeling or shooting or just out in the woods where I'll be abusing my gun the Champion is the one to go.

I also have a Marvel 22 conversion that is installed on the Champion a lot too. It's the Unit 1 and it works great even on the shorter frame.

If I had it to do over I would have just gotten the Loaded Champion model and then I would have been done with out all the work.

Somebody else mentioned using the Chip McCormick mags, that what I've always used both the power mags and the shooting star ones with out any problems.

No way will you go wrong with it and if you ever do have a problem Springfield's Customer service is top notch!

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

I like my Springers. I carry a Loaded Micro and after I replaced the factory recoil springs with Wolff Extra Power it runs like a top. Scary accurate for a 3"er, and as far as reliability goes-I ran 100rds through it holding it between my thumb and middle finger of my weak hand limp wristing the hell out of it and it didn;t skip a beat.
I've ran it, the Compact (which they never should have discontinued), the GI 4", a loaded Champion and a Loaded 40small and weak 5".

I think Springers are the best value all in all for factory (save the STI Spartans-but they're 5"). MIM stuff is in practiacally all factory guns now, but I haven't broken any parts yet.
Springfield's one of the last to not put a lawyer firing pin safety on their pistols too.

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

Good thread, I was actually looking at the SA site last night for maybe getting my first 1911. The champion looks like a really sharp gun for the money. Alabama, give us a range report if you decide to go with that pistol. I'd be really interested in seeing how it carries and shoots.

The champion model is fairly new, right? I don't remember seeing it at any gun shops back home (though it's been a long time since I've been in a gun shop). Maybe I just missed it in the 1911 case.

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

Im a Colt fan but the Springfields are very well built guns and Ive never had a problem with the ones I owned. They also offer many variations. Downside is their distribution network sucks majorly and most models are hard to find.

Re: Feedback on a SA 1911.

I spent years shooting three different full size Kimbers and never had a problem but a while back I tried the Pro BP Ten II. Thats their double stack mid size. I had a lot of feed issues. With a lot of different ammo. It only fed reliably w/ hot hallow points. Not to mention how much recoil it had as a short poly frame .45. Not a plinker but easy to carry. The best combat style shooting I've done was with a full size. And I also carried them w/o any more discomfort than any other full or midsize gun. And I'm not a big person.
