Don't waste your money on them sights. I see them all the time in shotgun news and roll my eye's every time I see it and think what a scam it is because you can get all the info (for free I might add) you want on the atf's website. I beleive they even have a hotline you can call to ask questions about getting one.

Re: ffl123.com

Yup, the only things those sites help you do is lighten your wallet. Believe it or not the BATFE is your best resource on getting your FFL, and for info on exactly how to do it. The forms are pretty self explanatory.

I found ATF (Phoenix) to be very helpful in answering all of my really lame questions, fixing the multiple errors on my application, and truly walking me by the hand through the process.

I got my license back in a much shorter time than I was expecting even.

Heck we're already paying for these folks, why pay a third party?

Re: ffl123.com

FFL 123 the REAL way:

1. Call the ATF and request the forms
2. Call the ATF and request the forms
3. Call the ATF and request the forms

Plan to wait a month

Fill out the forms
When you go to get fingerprinted most likely your local PD will have a Motorola scanner type device. Your packet will contain FBI cards from the 1960's. Just use the PD's and include a cover letter explaining it. You'll be fine.

Take your photo from the chest up. Uncle Sugar doesn't care how big your junk is. Remove any eye wear.

Be sure to include/have a copy of any lease agreements or additional zoning requirements as listed with your local municipality.

Eventually you get a call from the regional industry operations office stating that an inspector will be out to see you. You'll talk for a couple hours and he leaves.

He/she will have a pile of stuff for you to read.

READ IT. Remember, much of the BATF is like any other bureaucratic monster. I can call 3 times and get 3 different answers to a question. It's kinda like asking Mom if you can go out this Friday. Ask enough times and eventually you'll get the answer you want.

About 90 days later the "golden ticket" shows up.

Life can then begin.

Good luck. It's easy, just takes a little while.

Other tid bits. If you've have or ever had a security clearance (as in the EQUIP SF86 application, Secret, TS, TS Special Compartmental, etc. . .) plan on being delayed, delayed, delayed. It works the exact opposite of how one would think. It took me almost 9 months to get mine because of it.

I had a Q clearance for years at Sandia Labs?
I would not have thought that this would interfere?

Interestingly, both my CCW (same day service) and my FFL (<30 Days) came back in record time.

Re: ffl123.com

Well my Secret delayed the hell out of mine. Before I had the FFL I started getting delayed as well.

I have not bought a "counter gun" since getting my FFL so it'd be interesting to see what happens now.

None of this ever happened till I after I had the clearance.

A good friend works for Naval Criminal Investigations. The way he explained it is your name "flags" because you've been looked at by the FBI. This puts you on hold till they find out why. Your folder goes to some other Joe's desk on the pile. He filters through it, see's you've been investigated as part of a background check for a clearance, and moves you onto the next desk.

Point he was making to me was, the more desks involved, the more time it takes to get it done.

HA! Funniest damned thing I've ever heard in a conversation regarding FFL procedure!

Sorry to revive a nearly dead thread, but out of curiosity... has this caused issues for anyone else? My FFL was slow, but I didn't notice any abnormal problems. I frequently provide FFL services to co-workers and it seems to me like the clearance actually helps the process when talking to the robot people (first tier) for the 4473. Rarely do I have to talk with the actual humans that seem to have feelings.
