FNH SPR M40A1M in .243? -- at least that's what I think FNH would call it if they had built it...

FNH M70 short magnum action, glass bedded.
24" FNH Varmint contour barrel, fully free floated and threaded (I use a YHM Phantom).
NOS Sub-Minute-Solutions/McMillan M40 stock with adjustable comb.
FNH TBM magazine system.
Farrell Rings and Mounts for the Nightforce.

Originally I was going to refinish the stock, but the colors kind of grew on me.

Looks like you are off to a very good start. Very nice looking rifle. Looking forward to a range report.

Regards,
Paul

Was able to get it out yesterday evening for sight-in. I took a small variety of ammo: 75gr HP Hornady Custom, 85gr BTHP Federal & 100gr BTSP Gameking and 95gr Ballistic Silver Tip Winchester. After ammo hunting for the last three months, I recognize the need to start reloading as choices for premium target grade ammunition are practically nonexistent.

Trigger: This rifle has the Winchester M.O.A. trigger system. Set all the way out it measures 2#11oz. If you are unfamiliar with this trigger, it was introduced by FNH in 2010. It performs pretty much as advertised. It's adjustable with 0 perceived take up, creep and over travel. The overall impression is "crisp".

Sight-in and zero were set at 200 yards. Temp: 89%, humidity 85% approx., . Wind 2-4 approx from 7o'clock.

60 rounds were fired from prone, using a bipod, in 5 round groups loaded from the magazine. 0 FTF/FTE.

The best group was achieved with 85gr BTHP. The worst group with 100gr BTSP.

I think I can do better once cut back on the caffeine and start reloading.

Very nice!

Very, very nice!

I have a Win70 Stealth (MOA/CRF) inbound and have been reading everything related to precision FN/Win70s that I can find. Your rifle has popped up more than once in my reading.

A few questions for you, if you don't mind:

- Why the Farrell rings/bases over, say, Seekins or Badger Ordnance?
- Where did you get the action (Short Magnum)?
- Where did you get the barrel?
- How much work was required to fit in the TBM?
- Any complaints about the MOA trigger? I would not imagine, given your posted groups!
- Any advice for someone about to embark on using a precision M70?

Thanks!
