Just been looking around at scopes and have been interested in the ss but not sure if a fixed power would work for me. I'm thinking either the 10 or 12 power for $299. I'll mostly be target shooting but possibly hunting over a 300 yd field a couple days a year.
Thanks.
Alan

then a fixed 10x or 12x will work fine... only time you really need a variable is when you might want to turn it down for a quick shot... such as hunting in wooded areas... I hunted for 20yrs w/ a fixed SS 10x... hunting from a tree stand

If all of your shots will be that far (300 to 500+ yards) you could use just about any power you want. Field of view on a 12x scope at 300 should be pretty forgiving for deer/game hunting.

I've hunted for years with a 3-9x50mm scope and always found myself cranking the power up for any shot over 100 yards if I had the time.

Where I'm from 300+ yard shots on deer are pretty unheard of.
