I've found the war diaries on the ship my dad was on during WW2, it's a daily log kept by the officers on the ships activities.
They correspond to the stories he told me about where he was during the war,Alaska,San Diego providing overwatch for aircraft carrier takeoff and landings, the days leading up to the invasion of Okinawa.
I wish I found these before he passed away in 2018.
