Gunsmithing FTE Muzzle Brake Question

Has anyone ever used this brake with it clamped on only instead of both threaded on and clamped? If so, how do you like it? Also, the holes on the brake come for .22 and up. Will I be able to fire with it with a .17?

Thread it on unless you like the idea of eventually playing fetch with it downrange.

You would still have to machine the barrel to tge right OD. But I would not recomend it at all. And I think it would be complete overkill on a 17

^ Definitely overkill for the caliber I agree. It's just more eye candy.

The problem that I see as I sit here Playing with mine is that it centers it's self on the threads. The clamp wouldn't garuntee cebtering by itsself

So it looks like clamping it isn't the way to go. So even if I had it threaded on, would it work with a .17 since the holes come in .22?

You could shoot with it.

That's all I can garuntee. They are supposed to Be bore like .020-30 over anyway.

People shoot 6 and 7 mm through 30 cal Cans all the time.

How large can you bore it out,can you go up to 0.500"? Befor anyone asks, not for a .50BMG.

you are probably going to have to machine the barrel anyway to fit it on, so you should probably just thread it at the same time.
