Doing pretty good. Lymphoma is in remission and other than neuropathy, I'm not feeling too bad. I'm spending a lot of time working with my new birddog pup, so if I survive that, I'm doing good for an old relic. Thanks for asking.

Corn truffles! Sometimes, if the heat and humidity are high, corn can be infected by a fungus that causes the kernels to expand and become the delicious delicacy known as huitlacoche (pronounced whee-tla-KOH-cheh). Also known as Mexican truffles and corn smut, when cooked, they taste like a cross between mushrooms, fresh corn and black truffles. While we never end up with many of these, some farms purposely infect their fields to cultivate the truffles. We are so thankful to all of the indigenous cultures and communities that the history and origin of this fungus belongs too.

The devise behind the two guys laying in the face cut is typically referred to as Gunning Sticks, how appropriate for this site. As seen, the long ends of the sticks are placed in the far corners of the notch and one would usually stand between the tree and the gun and then sight across the two hinged points to determine where the tree should fall but that was one big ass tree and they probably had to lay in the cut to reference the sights. Adjustments to the face cut would be made prior to making the back cut. Love the old logging pics!
A friend was in Yosemite this week. A tree that has been there since before the Roman Empire and still lives is awe inspiring to me.
Watching when I left work yesterday....

We used to have a Great Pyrenees and she brought us a fawn just like in this pic.
