Wombats. December 1993 was visiting Australia and got to hold an orphaned baby wombat that was holding onto a stuffed animal. Can't remember the name of the place. Also got to hold and get pictures with a baby koala holding onto a stuffed koala.
They were scrapped and captured enemy ships.
The reason the Germans and Japs dont have a Battleship Cove or a USS New jersey to visit.
Those pictures and films always remind me of the Jack Lewis story about waking up aboard ship drunk/hung over, looking out a port hole and seeing orange (?) ships going by. Then going back to his rack, back to sleep, extreamly confused and in disbelief.

The Japanese have Mikasa, and it was there before WWII, and really I think it is the best way to preserve a ship. During the war they did take everything of value off her, but she is back together now and a great museum, that will last a LONG time. She is roughly as old as Olympia, but in much better shape, and much cheaper to keep going.
