New shooter here.
I'm going to be ordering my first semi-nice scope here shortly and I've settled on the Gen2 PST in 5x25 with the EBR-7C. I've already used the EBR-2C in my current Diamondback Tactical for about 6 months so I'm already used to that style of reticle.

Just looking for feedback from users on issues and failures people have encountered. Tracking issues, zero slips, etc.
Thanks y'all

I have had two of them that had the same difficulty in moving the focus knob and magnification ring. They were so stiff that I could not move them from the shooting position. Even with a throw lever it would tip the rifle over off of it's bipod.

I also had a Razor gen 1 and now have a Razor gen 2 that the controls are also stiff. Have not used any of the four enough to see if they would loosen with repeated use.

I am a Vortex fanboy and have three of their scopes at present. A 1-6 Strike Eagle and an old 2.5 - 10 HS that are near perfect in their ease of movement but don't move from normal use.

Maybe I am just a weakling! I should have kept one of the PST"s as they are great scopes for the money.

I have two PST's older models . had a few issues with the first one , hard to move parallax turret , Vortex replaced it quickly . They have excellent warranty backup . The newer PST models are better as far as I can find out .
Good warranty back up would make me buy another one .

I have a few of the Gen2 PST's I love them for the money. None have needed any kind of service. I do have a Diamondback Tactical back at Vortex right now because it had terrible clarity issues, we'll see how they do on that one.

I have one on a RPR and it’s a great scope. I mean you really can’t beat that scope for the price. It tracks well, and the glass quality is pretty much on par with any other 1500$-ish scope out there (but the vortex is 1/2 of that).

I think they are good scopes. Their weakness is when the sun gets just right, the glare is horrendous even with the sunshade in both the 3-15 and 5-25. That is my only gripe and only matters at that certain time a day when facing that certain direction.

Issues ive had with mine was with rings. You cannot follow the ring manf specs on torque on some. I had an issue with a moving parallax. Finally dropped down to 15 inch pounds on my larue mounts. Even 17 was too much. Maybe some arc rings would be able to go near their specs, but they are not a traditional ring.

I was going to sell my scope(just to upgrade) but then the bottom dropped out of resale so i put it on my cz 457 and love it.

I used the Vortex precision series PMR rings (PMR-30-97) and they work fine.

Id imagine they would, but iirc my larue(legit brand) says 22inch pounds, which fucks it up. Went to vortex’s recommendation of 15 and im gtg.

I had an issue where the elevation turret seemed to be detached inside and would not dial the reticle up or down. I sent it back to Vortex I had it home within a week. Great customer service.

I have had great success with mine but I wish I got on snipershide before I was scope shopping and would have bought one of these used razors.

    Larue lol

So should people do 15 on their ARC rings? Not a chance. It's more on the mount than the scope.

Clearly not, but 4 screws vs 1 on the arc. I never tried the arc rings on a pst gen 2, but i have them on my uso and amg and ive had no issues.

4 screws the clamping gets multiplied, there is math involved above my pay grade.

The first week after I got my pst gen 2, I was at a match @ Q creek ranch, wyoming and the last stage after I finished, I was rewinding my turret back to zero and it broke. Called vortex monday, let them know I had another match the following weekend and they overnighted me a brand new one. You can’t beat that warranty service

I have the 5-25 on my hunting rifle. We were in rough terrain and had to get out of the side by side while they tried to go up the rocky hillside. My rifle came out of the rifle rack falling about 6' onto the rocks scope first. Never lost zero. Turrets track well. Great scopefor the price.

I've had a few of them with no problems. I would suggest you get a switch view for it. The magnification ring can be a bit stiff.

They aren't perfect, but considering the last year they've been popping up on sale as low as $700, $650 for the 3-15x it's one of the best values for the $. People like to put the PST 2 with the SHV in the same bracket but the SHV is stuck at 14x and it's almost twice as much $ when you look at street prices. Now if you had to pay $900 for a PST 2 and the SHV F1 was 5-25 for $1200, then sure get the SHV, but when you can almost buy 2:1 with the PST 2 sales, it's a harder choice when $ in concerned, and it's always a concern or everyone would be putting $5k optics on all their guns.

Plus with prices now you can almost get a Razor 2 3-18 on sale for what an SHV F1 costs, and that's a whole different game.

Question ? I did a quick search and didn't find an answer - What is the difference between the EBR-2D FFP MRAD reticle and the EBR-7C FFP MRAD reticle ?
    Thanks

It looks like one difference might be that the 2D the full tree does not illuminate, at least on the webpage for the 7C it appears it does illuminate the whole tree (but they may just be showing it illuminated since the Razor 2 comes with the 7C as well). The 2D absolutely does not illuminate the tree, just the main vertical/horizontals.

2D has a solid cross, 7C has a dot at the center, dot is the new "it" thing to have.

2D only has 1/2 mil hashes on the windage out to 4mil, 7C has 1/2 mil(bottom) and 0.2 mil hashes(top). Also looks like the 7C goes to 10 mil on the sides, the 2D only goes to 7 mil

I do really like the dot instead of the cross, and if it does illuminate the whole tree on the PST 2 that's worth something, just not sure if it's worth the extra $200-300 compared to the 2D on sale.

I have 7C version and the whole tree is lit. I debated the 2C or 2D...it was worth the premium for me to get the 7C.

Don't forget that Vortex has discounts for active/prior service vets. 40% from MSRP. I got my Razor HD 5-20 for 1400. for example.

Only issue I've had on a PST gen ii is the illumination dial... it's so tough to turn I have to grab it with my whole hand and twist. Other than that they're wonderful!

I've seen mostly all positives since posting this thread, however I decided to just take another few months to save up and go straight for the 4.5x27 gen2 Razor. Buy once, cry once kids
